Dennis Kucinich is not a joke
by Mary Shaw | Nov 11 2007

Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) is once again running for president. But you wouldn't know it from the mainstream media, which have been spending all their time focusing on Clinton, Obama, and sometimes Edwards.

It seems like the only time we hear about Dennis Kucinich is when the talking heads make fun of him. They ridicule Kucinich's short physical stature and his elfin appearance, and they make creepy comments about Kucinich's gorgeous young wife.

snip//

No, what's weird is that the issues are being ignored in favor of schoolyard-style ridicule. If the pundits and the Congress could get past the nonsense and focus on the issues, Dennis Kucinich might have a chance to bring about some of the change that the American people have been more and more impatiently waiting for.

Like bringing our troops home from Iraq.

Like holding the Vice President accountable for his manipulation of the intelligence process to deceive Americans in the run-up to the war in Iraq, and for threatening aggression against Iran absent any threat to the U.S.

Like keeping jobs here in the U.S.

Like protecting consumers.

Like promoting the development of clean, safe, renewable energy sources.

Like taking care of our sick.

And like enforcing our country's ideal that all persons are created equal.

But those things are hard work. It's much easier to just sit back, collect money from the special interests, and ridicule Dennis Kucinich.

Because he's short.

Because he's not so telegenic.

Because he's married to a beautiful redhead.

And because he speaks for those of us who have a heart.

1. It's a good thing he's not telegenic, otherwise they would be obliged
to hear him out. That wouldn't be very convenient or fun, would it?

2. They don't fear Kucinich, what they fear is Kucinich's ideas taking hold
Dennis Kucinich stands for all the things the Democratic Establishment hates and fears. One of the things they fear the most is that people will demand single payer health care.

AFL-CIO Leaders Work to Derail Rank and File Drive for Single Payer

by Russell Mokhiber

Does the leadership of the AFL-CIO favor a single payer, Canadian-style, Medicare-for-all, health insurance system? They do not.

The California Nurses Association, which joined the AFL executive council earlier this year, supports single payer.

More than 350 other union locals support single payer.

More than 80 members of the House of Representatives support legislation that would create a single payer system in the United States (HR 676).

But the leadership of the AFL-CIO does not support single payer.

They may say they support it.

But yesterday, at a press conference at the National Press Club, it became clear that AFL-CIO President John Sweeney and his fellow labor union bosses are actively working to derail the rank and file movement for single payer.

Sweeney and leaders of the SEIU, UFCW, Bricklayers, Laborers, and Teamsters - along with DLA Piper partner and former Congressman Dick Gephardt - yesterday put their stamp of approval on a employer-based state health insurance reform plan by Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich (D).

The Illinois plan is similar to one introduced by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) for California and Governor Ed Rendell (D) for Pennsylvania.

Robert Redford could run on the left and get ridiculed for some reason or other.

5. I briefly have met both Dennis Kucinich and John Edwards
Edited on Sun Nov-11-07 05:21 PM by demnan
In person, Dennis is far more personable, with a warm smile, and wit and his black eyes just sparkle when he's around like minded people. Edwards never seemed to let down his guard. I don't say this to condemn Edwards in anyway, I think he's run a good campaign. But meeting the two within a week of each other, I was struck by the fact that the media lies weren't true at all. I would feel far more comfortable around Kucinich. Kucinich had no fear when I handed him an Impeach Him button, in fact he begin talking about how we couldn't do things in anger, that we had to be thoughtful in our approach. A really deep response, like he had thought this through before.

Edwards took the button with no comment and screwed up his face in a false smile that generated fear at the fundraiser I was helping at.

I made my decision, partly based on all these things - human reaction, personablity and the impeachment issue.

On edit -
a week after I handed Kucinich the button and our small group as well as some PDA members asked about Impeachment - he introduced articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney

Election.

10. We all have that chance.
If he's not on it, we can write him in.

Whether or not I do that would depend on who else is on the ticket.

I'm leaving my options open.

11. Donate to him!
http://www.actblue.com/page/du-presidential

Go to his action page to hook up with like minded citizens in your area: http://action.dennis4president.com

Get information about impeachment and be sure to point out that Dennis is the only candidate who's fighting for this: http://kucinich.house.gov/SpotlightIssues/documents.htm

Grab a press kit and plaster your area with Kucinich information:
http://www2.kucinich.us/node/4295

If we accept that Dennis won't win, he won't. It's an uphill climb, we know, but in the end it's worth the effort!

Go Dennis! :woohoo:

14. No, but I'll be proud to vote for him in the Primaries
Even if he doesn't win, I'll know I voted for the one and only Democrat who had the guts to move for impeachment and the one guy who probably represents our Party better than anyone else.

I and quite a few of my immediate circle supported and voted for him. Sigh.

8. I wish I had your optimism, but he really should get equal time. This is
a classic example of the media trying to select 'what's best for us' instead of letting people make up their own minds.

16. I'm STILL livid about part of little time he got at the debate was used as
an opportunity to make him appear silly. I was one of the only people on this board who liked Tim Russert. Now he's on my list and I have NO respect for him.

Dennis is an outstanding individual and would make an outstanding president.

17. I agree 100%
I truly believe if everyone had a chance to really hear & see as much of DK as they hear & see the others, things would be very different. I don't know if I'm optimistic, but I can dream. As I said we would have to be VERY lucky.

I heard a replay of it on AAR. All I can say is WOW! I wish ALL of our candidates would fight these know-it-all media types like Dennis did.

The complete blacking in the media of DK's impeachment resolution shows the extent of effort put in trying to marginalize DK...
