Local audience finds no clear cut winner
Edited on Fri Nov-16-07 10:12 AM by zulchzulu
Aside from the initial fireworks at the beginning and the drunken asshole(s) heckling and interrupting the debate (oddly seeming to be Clinton supporters), I don't see how anyone with a straight face can say there was a "clear winner". This article is sure to be like others that make that assessment.

Northern Nevadans who watched the Democratic presidential debate today differed on which candidate fared the best, but most agreed there were less personal attacks and more focus on issues than in previous debates.

“I thought it was a good debate,” said Lynn Brosy, who hosted a party for a group of Bill Richardson supporters. “All the candidates had a chance to be part of the discussion, so I like that. I think they did less mudslinging.”

(snip)

“I think a lot of it like illegal immigration, Social Security and health care are Nevada issues just like they are national issues,” Brosy said.

Stephane Rector, an Obama supporter, said she felt her candidate did the best but also was impressed with Richardson, the New Mexico governor who has spent more time campaigning in Nevada than any other Democrat.
“I thought he had a lot of good moments,” she said.

Dorothy Nash Holmes, also an Obama supporter, said all the candidates handled themselves well, but she was staying with Obama.

“Obama is the first candidate I’ve been excited about in 15 years,” the former Washoe County district attorney said.

1. Clearly, Hillary was the winner. Obama muttered and stuttered
and Edwards had the deer in the headlight look going on

Biden and Dodd were ok and Richardson is a run-on sentence.

2. That's entirely subjective on your part
If you believe in a candidate that changes views like she changes pants suits, good for you.

Whatever...

7. Clearly? Clearly Biden was the winner.
Did Hillary win by not losing? I don't think that's winning.

9. Richardson puts human rights ahead of the bogeyman "national security"
He went up hugely in my estimation for that statement alone.

5. Why did this 'reporter' interview only Obama supporters?
Seems to be quite a strange way to get a feel for who did what in the debate.

Very odd.

6. There's more in the article.
I just chopped out parts so as to not get into copyright problems.

10. Here are all the quotes in the article
One Richardson suppoter and 3 Obama supporters and one (maybe) leaning Obama or Biden. Seems a very slim sample for a headline like "Local audience finds no clear cut winner"

Bill Richardson supporter (Lynn Brosy): “I thought it was a good debate” “All the candidates had a chance to be part of the discussion, so I like that. I think they did less mudslinging.”...."“I think a lot of it like illegal immigration, Social Security and health care are Nevada issues just like they are national issues.".... (Edwards had a poorer performance than in some of the past debates.) “That surprised me. He seemed weaker than he has in the past.”

Obama supporter (Brent Busboom): “After that first four minutes, it seemed to settle down and focus more on the issues."

Obama supporter (Stephane Rector), said she felt her candidate did the best but also was impressed with Richardson, the New Mexico governor who has spent more time campaigning in Nevada than any other Democrat. “I thought he had a lot of good moments,” she said.

Obama supporter (Dorothy Nash Holmes) “Obama is the first candidate I’ve been excited about in 15 years."

Undefined (Ralph Stephens): “Obama and particularly Biden came off very strong,” he said. “I think Biden had the most credibility. His competencey, his character, he showed more charisma. I think that’s very positive.”

8. Well gee, that tis amazing. Just like here on the DU we cannot
say who won the night, but I can tell you within the first 12 minutes the debate changed for HRC. She put Obama back on his heels and Edwards looked like a deer caught in the headlights. Began posting last week as the debate drew closer for everyone to watch HRC take control of the debate. She did exactly that, and after the 12 minutes the tone and flavor of the debate changed for HRC.

The worse performance of the night was by Obama. When all he had to do is either say YES or NO to the license question. Before he got asked the question HRC said when asked, NO!!!. Obama did not answer until he went on a 10,000 worded answer and it was so convoluted many rolled their eyes with his response.

11. Hillary said "No!" like a robot that was reprogrammed to answer
She was passionate about the need to work with law enforcement and highway safety for New Yorkers just a couple weeks ago. I respected her view then. Now she of course sees how easy it is to just completely reverse her position because of some focus group "reconfiguration".

For those with short attention spans, she's great! For those with recordings of her many ever-changing positions, she's a wealth of future ads that will destroy her.
