Please tell me that we won't end up with President Huckabee
I keep hearing his stock is rising, bla, bla, bla...

He looks benign, but this is a guy who doesn't believe in evolution and thinks that illegal imigration is caused by the lack of American laborers who were aborted because of Roe v. Wade.

I wanna to break into a dead run and scream into the night.

1. If he keeps talking like that
he'll really turn off the independent voter. They don't WANT another nutjob in office.

6. I think we will end up with candidate Hucksterbible
but his electability in the general is in question. He might energize the fundies enough to make it very close if the Democrats do what they always do and play to a non existent middle class and equally fictional swing vote instead of to the party's working class base.

So given the GOP's fondness for illegal activity, it could happen.

17. Wow, Warpy...
You landed that one right between the eyes...pretty much summing up the Democrats failed strategy.

Will they finally realize this time that it doesn't work?

8. I have been thinking this for a while
I think of the entire puke field this guy is the most dangerous. Not in terms of what he would do in office but in terms of being able to steal this election from the dems. He comes across as very reasonable when he isnt on one of his religious bents.

I truly believe he will be the puke nominee.

9. He's losing steam in Iowa -
"Mitt Romney has extended his lead in the Iowa Republican Presidential Caucus for 2008 and three candidates are virtually tied for second place.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of the race shows Romney with support from 29% of Likely Caucus Participants. Trailing the frontrunner by thirteen percentage points is Mike Huckabee who enjoys support from 16%. In a virtual tie for second with Huckabee are Rudy Giuliani at 15% and Fred Thompson at 14%. Further back are John McCain (6%), Ron Paul (4%), Tom Tancredo (4%), and Duncan Hunter (2%). Nine percent (9%) are undecided (see crosstabs).

Romney’s thirteen point advantage is double his six-point lead from a month ago. Support for Romney has increased four-points since the prior survey while Thompson’s support has fallen four points. Mike Huckabee is down two from the earlier survey suggesting his bounce may have reached at least a temporary plateau. Rudy Giuliani, the leader in national polls, picked up three percentage points over the past month."

13. Big "if"
If Huckster can knock off Romney in Iowa that's huge for him (and is essentially the only reason for the OP to be concerned at all).

But I think Romney wins IA, with Huck in 2nd. Then Mitt and Rudy square off in NH, and if it's Romney again, the hands all fold and we see the Mormon nominated. If New Hampshire picks Rudy then South Carolina could break for Huck and you've got a real contested nomination.

Huckabee could roll, but not if he loses in Iowa. I see Romney winning the nomination: he's squeaky clean and has scads of dough. But I'd like to see some excitement (particularly if our nominee wraps things up early).

10. He's helping Rudy Giuliani take down Mittens in Iowa. Hucksterbee, and
everyone else, knows he's not going to win the nom, but he's trying to score as Rudy's VP.

12. Quite right
Huckster strengthens the Pukes with his Southern fundamentalist bona fides.

He's #2 on anybody's ticket -- Rude, Mitt, or even McCain.

14. could you imagine President Huckabee
the Huckster? Yeah, I think the GOP establishment will bury him. They don't hate him as much as Ron Paul but they don't like him or his "voters" except for the fact that they GOP needs them to get "elected"

But if the GOP still manipulates the paperless voting machines, we could end up with pResident Huckabee.
