Poll question: Friday FUN: THE CANDIDATE CALCULATOR with Poll
Edited on Fri Nov-16-07 03:44 PM by Terre
Oops. Edited to get rid of the smilie faces.

Over here in Portland, Oregon, we libruls listen to 620AM KPOJ.

I just now got an email inviting me to participate in a "poll" (for lack of a better word) that allows me to rate ALL the candidates (including Republicans) based on the views we agree/disagree on. It's a fascinating, surprising, and DIFFERENT type of poll.

Here is the lead-in:

This is a really simple way to find out which 2008 presidential candidates share your views. Enter your choices below and hit the submit button to rank the candidates.

Here's how it works...If you agree on an issue with a candidate, he/she gets a point. If you disagree, we take a point away. Choosing the "Unknown/other" option results in no points. The number of points given or taken depends on the weight you set. Rate how important each issue is to you on a scale from 1 to 5 (1 being less important, 5 being most important). You will find a list directly below each candidate containing the issues which you disagree with (as long as he/she scores greater than zero).

Click here to participate: THE CANDIDATE CALCULATOR

There are 25 Issues to compare your stances with those of all the candidates. Republicans are included. Each issue has a drop-down menu to choose Support/Oppose/Unknown-Other. Then you rate each (1 - 5) according to the importance you give it.

Here are the issues to rate and compare:

Abortion Rights
Death Penalty
No Child Left Behind
Embryonic Stem Cells
ANWR Drilling
Kyoto
Assault Weapons Ban
Background Checks
Patriot Act
Guantanamo
Torture
Wiretapping
Citizenship Path for Illegals
Border Fence
Net Neutrality
Iran Sanctions
Iran - Military Action
Iraq War
Iraq Troop Surge
Iraq Withdrawal
Minimum Wage Increase
Same-Sex Marriage
Same-Sex Civil Union
Same-Sex Constitutional Ban
Universal Healthcare

FAIR WARNING: Once you click the Line Up My Candidates Now button, you cannot click the Back button and review your selections again, as it will reset. HOWEVER, if you want to "adjust", or review the choices you made, you can do that underneath the LAST Republican on your list.

Here is the list (in order) of the candidates that best share your views, according to the data you entered.

My results? (Also shown in the results are the particular issues that the candidate and I do not necessarily agree on, but I didn't indicate that below.)

Dennis Kucinich Score: 100
Mike Gravel Score: 78
Barack Obama Score: 77
Hillary Clinton Score: 72
John Edwards Score: 71
Bill Richardson Score: 64
Chris Dodd Score: 63
Joe Biden Score: 62

heh. I'm currently supporting Edwards, then Obama, but hey, if Kucinich survives through our May, 2007 primary, well...then...I may need to reconsider.

My top Republican leader? Ron Paul with a score of Minus (-7). Last on my Republican list? Duncan Hunter at a score of (-93).

This page is not intended to provide you with your voting decision. Be sure to research all candidates and where they stand on the various issues before makeing your own decision.

HAVE FUN! and do share your Candidate Calculator results in your comments below.

This is the first time I've included a poll in my post. Hope it works right. The question:

Which Presidential Candidate did you score highest with (and no cheating) ;)

5. I about fell outta my chair
when I saw him come in SECOND! lol

Another take on this poll (to provide an interesting twist) is to vote OPPOSITE. At the bottom of the results page, update your answers to the complete OPPOSITE of how you initially replied, and then see who comes out on top.

6. Biden was in a four way tie for third place with me
Kooch, then Crazy Gramps, then Obama, then Edwards, then Hillary (eek!), then and only then my actual perferred candidate.

Ron Paul was my top Republican, followed by McCain, Thompson, & Giuliani.

I wonder what Thompson is doing to come up above Rudy with me.

7. Dennis, 97%. I disagree with him on No Child Left Behind. I feel this is
an interpretation thing. I was responding in a way to drop it and start fresh. Not that I want to see any child left behind. For some reason, all the Repugs were last on the list.

The others were: Gravel, Obama, Clinton, Edwards, Richardson, Dodd, Biden.

In another version of a calculator, Dodd was my #1 -- which surprised me.

Like you, I'm currently supporting Edwards, but will be casting a vote for Kucinich is Edwards drops out. This makes no sense, actually, since I feel Kucinich is the best representative of liberalism. Why we do that? It's not that Dennis can't win. He can. It's just that people agree with him, but don't actually cast their votes for him.

9. DK 95 Points.
Then Gravel at 78

Unfortunately, the flaw in all of these is that they go by what the candidates SAY, instead of what the candidates DO.

17. True
I think HRC, Obama, and Edwards would be even lower for me if a quiz took in other considerations.

19. My top three are (1) Kucinich, (2) Gravel, and (3) Richardson
Unfortunately for Kucinich, my Second Amendment rights are very important to me, so if Kucinich really wants my vote in the primaries, he's going to have to work hard for it. Support for any nationwide ban on semi-automatics is a deal-breaker for me, so he'll have to rethink that position first.
