Support Your Candidate, first and foremost! |
|
If you have decided who your candidate is, then build her/him up, but you will not elevate your candidate by tearing another one down. You probably will only alienate a lot of undecideds.
Personally I would much rather hear why you are supporting a particular candidate, than why you AREN'T supporting another, and I'm quite sure I am not alone in that respect. I am so tired of seeing certain individuals hijacking positive threads.
If you like a candidate, than support him/her and vote accordingly. If you don't like someone, then don't vote for him/her.
Meanwhile, harness all that combative energy for the general election and the republicans.

2. You probably will only alienate a lot of undecideds. Damn RIGHT!!!! |
|
I'm one of those undecideds, and frankly, I've been hectored and "accused" by at least two rabid fucking partisans here, because I dared to correct a misperception/interject a FACT into a discussion surrounding their candidates.
It gets tiresome.
I actually have to 'think' about the fact that someone behaving like a total fucking asshole is NOT atually representing the candidate--that they're just some loser THINKING they're helping that person!!!!!
I agree--talk up the platform, don't talk down the opponents. If there are genuine differences in view on issues, discuss them honestly, without 'gotchas' and deliberate misinterpretations.

11. There are lots of "undecideds" out there |
|
and they are looking, listening, and asking questions. A supporter is like a "sales person" and few would buy anything from someone who is ranting and raving against someone else. Such behavior detracts from a candidates qualifications.
Voters want to know why they should vote "for" someone.

15. Precisely. And they don't want to be called a "X" supporter either. |
|
X= Fill in the Name of the Candidate that the person friken HATES!!
If you ask "What is the candidate's position on (Whatever)?" and the position isn't too swift for a Democratic candidate, they often respond "I'll BET YOU are an X SUPPORTER!" instead of trying to explain the candidate's reasoning.

It reminds us of what we're really fighting against. It shouldn't be each other.

4. Two thumbs up on your post |
|
Debate, discuss, and argue the reason why your candidate is best on the issues, or why someone you oppose is not, but it is not productive to name call or trash someone elses candidate. In fact if you are trying to convience someone to support your candidate, it is far better to attract them with issues why your candidate would be a better choice
The truth is if a republican wins the white house in 2008, we are in big trouble, the Supreme Court being the most visible issue at stake
Thanks for your post

After I meandered for a while amidst the muck and mire, I decided to take the high road hoping there would be others who would agree. I'm quite certain there are many members who drop in and leave when they see all the animosity.

5. I support Kucinich because he has consistently voted |
|
against the Iraq quagmire. He supports the Constitution and does not waver on doing the right thing. In support of him I purchased 100 buttons and I wear one wherever I go. If I get a positive comment I pull an extra button out and pass it along. If I get the ol' unelectable story I pass a button along and tell the doubter to check the website out and get educated. This is something I can do. Peace, Kim

I can't put down Kucinich, because for the most part his supporters have been reasonable and positive.

9. Well I support DK's candidacy with regular contributions. |
|
Dodd's, Biden's, Richardson's and Edwards all at least once. Dennis is the perfect candidate to me on the issues. The others are worth some consideration.

I totally agree. We are not doing the party or any candidate any good by tearing each other down. The Democratic party needs to come together and not engage in distructive politics. There are candidates that I really don't care alot about and some I do like alot and I for one have no made up my mind 100%. I agree that the energy needs to be directed to winnig the election and taking the Constitution back. I will support the candidate who wins the nomination no matter if I didn't vote or support them. It is too important to keep the Republicans out of the White House in 2008.

14. I think we are in the majority here, but |
|
the more civil ones are just less vocal. Reason and sanity are attributes that aren't screamed. Justifiable anger can be persuasive when it is spoken clearly and courteously. There is room for manners in politics.

20. A much needed thread! |
|
I support Biden because Musharraf and Bhutto call him before the President to discuss what is going on in Pakistan. I support Biden because he can knock Rudy off of his high horse in just one sentence "A noun, a verb, and 9/11" I support Biden because he changed the whole tone of the debate last Thursday nite by making the others focus on what the voters really want to hear. I support Biden because he is the candidate that all the other candidates quote.
I could go on and on :)
