Sikh Community in CA upset after getting snubbed by Clintons
Sikhs Seethe Over a Snub by Clintons

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Clinton campaign's abrupt cancellation of scheduled appearances here is leaving members of the Sikh community dismayed and demanding an explanation.

Traditional food, elaborate costumes, and ritual sword fighting were on display as thousands of Sikhs celebrated a religious festival here yesterday, but the expected guest of honor, Senator Clinton, was a no-show. Mrs. Clinton also scuttled a fund-raising breakfast at a nearby fairgrounds where Sikh leaders had hoped to raise $1 million for her presidential campaign.

Some Sikhs said they suspected Mrs. Clinton's campaign grew skittish about the visit in the wake of negative publicity over her fund-raising in the Chinese immigrant community. News organizations found that some donations came from recent migrants who seemed to lack the means to give large checks.

The local Democratic Party chairwoman, Candi Easter, said she was informed that the security issue was the fact that an organizer of the event had recently traveled to Pakistan. Mr. Virk said he was that traveler."This is all B.S.," Mr. Virk said. He said he visited a religious site in Pakistan for two days during a recent trip that was mainly to India.

1. "snub" is an editorial opinion, not a fact - Secret Service advised cancellation?
well if the secret service advised cancellation, there is no reason to "seethe" over Clinton as being a no-show.

disappointment would be a more appropriate response. or "it's her loss".

to say clinton snubbed them is an opinion.

7. What would you expect a Murdoch publication to say?
I highly doubt the Sikhs are "seething" over the issue.

Hillary has raised over $300,000 in Bakersfield, at least half of it from the Sikhs. The closest competitor is one of the Repugs at $30,000.

4. As a Bakersfield resident, the site was a poor choice
The fairground area is wide open with plenty of places for a sniper to hide outside the gates.

And considering the large radical rightwing element in the city, both Clintons would have been a target.

8. Here's a non rightwing article about it:
http://www.bakersfield.com/102/story/288934.html

Security concerns led to cancellation of a high-ticket fundraiser for Hillary Clinton originally scheduled for Sunday at the Kern County Fairgrounds.

The breakfast event, sponsored by Bakersfield group Sikh Americans for Hillary '08, could have brought in more than $1.5 million to Clinton's presidential campaign coffers.

One thousand tickets ranging from $1,500 to $2,300 a plate were on the table for the Democratic hopeful.

Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, had been scheduled to appear.
