Just finished V. Plame's book and I'm mad as hell all over again! |
|
Though heavily redacted, Plame reveals how the White HOuse and Republican led Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and ultimately a politically infected CIA screwed over Valerie and Joe Wilson. We all know they did this in the press, but what Plame reveals is the financial suffering the repub. gang of thugs did to them. Wilson's consulting business was crippled and the increasingly politicized CIA even tried to screw Plame out of money she was due upon leaving the agency and their extraordinary efforts to keep her book - and the income it could produce, of course -- from being published.
The events were so stressful, Valerie and Joe nearly decided to divorce. Their home life was a wreck and they suffered health problems brought on by the stress. Theywere afraid for not only their lives, but also their little twins'. At the height of their anxiety about safety, the CIA refused their request for round the clock protection. All because they were honorably serving their country and the cause of truth.
Yes, the Wilson's had some very rich, well connected friends, but ultimately the Republicans effectively destroyed their lives in D.C. No wonder they got out of the Washington sewer and headed for New Mexico.
I would advise you to read this book. What she cannot tell, as the redacted parts shaded black shows, is told in an "Afterword" by another author. Evidently, she could tell the "back story" that Val could not. It is heavily sourced and researched.
Ihope the Wilson's have made a pile of money selling their story's film rights. It should be another "All the President's Men."

For anyone who wants to know how diplomacy works, too. I'm waiting for Plame's book to arrive, books take a long time reaching me in Mexico, but I'm looking forward to reading it.

2. Hey...think of it this way... |

Plame and Wilson are better connected than most whistleblowers are. Look at what they did to Jesselyn Radack. www.patriotictruthteller.net or look at what they've done to people like Fiscus or Col.Wright or Cindy Sheehan or Sibel Edmmonds.
Seriously, you can help Jesselyn and other whistleblowers out by buying their book and sharing their story. I bet most people don't even know what those people did!

4. You are right, I don't know about Radack et al. I shall read their books. If nothing else, Plame's |
|
book will hopefully stir interest in the other, less known whistleblowers efforts. Thankyou for the heads up!

6. I read the book and also enjoyed it |
|
but while it pissed me off all over again at what this country lets Bush/Cheney get away with, I am so thankful that occasionally some people like Valerie and Joe STAND UP TO THE MACHINE. It is hard, as this book describes, but in the end we are better off.
Even after she was out of the CIA Bush used the CIA to prevent publication of the book until there were so many blank lines and pages they thought she would go away.
I do like how the publisher filled in the blanks with the public record at the end.
I also read Enter the Past Tense My Secret Life as a CIA Assassin by Roland Haas. He was a contractor and just wrote the book because the CIA would deny his existence. Unfortunately for Valerie Bush outed her and she did not have the same option.
