Soliciting clarification from Edwards supporters.
I want to preface this by saying this is a sincere question -- no agenda in any way. And this is by no means a BIG DEAL or looking for a hidden meaning -- I'm just curious.

This is about a response by Edwards when questioned about a proposal Biden has forwarded:

While Edwards is going further than his rivals on family leave, he wasn't willing to up the ante when a medical student in the audience asked him to commit to spending $300 million a year on a program that gives scholarships to medical students who agree to working in underserved areas. The student noted that Sen. Joe Biden has made the commitment, prompting Edwards to joke, "Welcome to my world."

It's the "Welcome to my world" retort. I just don't GET it -- do you? It may just have been one of those off-the-cuff quips which mean absolutely nothing. But when I read it I thought "huh?" - so wanted to see if I'm missing something.

Thanks. :hi:

1. I certainly can't speak for the man, and not having seen it in context
my guess would be that whatever anyone wants from another candidate, they ask the other candidates why they can't be "more like them".

Like people are trying to build a candidate out of spare parts from the other 7.

Not all candidates are going to agree on all things.

for Family Medical Leave - but it didn't really add to the context in this instance.

I understand the questioner's reason for asking the question (especially since it was a medical student who asked), but didn't understand his response.

I see your point -- thanks.
