Methodology wise, Zogby's one of the best out there.
He doesn't do a CNN or MSNBC style poll. He has a base of respondents (I'm one and I'd bet a number of DUers are) from which he draws a random sample. There's nothing squirrely about this. It's a legitimate methodology just as legit as phone polls.
Still, like Gallup and others on occasion, it could be an outlier in this case.
But don't knock his methodology. (FWIW, I'm a PhDed retired business school prof, with a minor in research methods.)

18. It is an "On-Line" poll we are talking about for goodness sakes.....meaning |
|
those taking the poll have to have a computer and could have more than one log in into Zogby!
I'm signed up for on line Zogby polling; the requirement in order to get on their list to be able to participate in the poll is not very complicated. To get on there twice or more is about as easy as one persona owning multiple cars. :eyes:

Unless you are a very good liar who can keep track of all of his demographic and political responses, you'll be found out. For a poll like the Hillary poll, they first identify the characteristics of the sample that they believe best represent demographically the voting public, including party affiliation. There will be hundreds if not thousands of individuals fitting each type of voter respondent that demographically and politically they are looking for. Then they randomly select from within each group.
With this methodology, the sample is as random as any sample developed by Gallup or any other top-tier polling organization.

|
he or she pretends to sign up for. :eyes:
I have not done this simply because I don't have the time nor the inclination (as I'm not passionate about any of the candidates to that extent).....but there are many who are.
Plus, having to have a computer to participate....by itself, shuts out an important sample which is not represented at all in Zogby's polls.
For you to believe that an on-line Zogby poll would be a good representation of Democrats in these United States is similar to those who believe that Iowa to be a good pulse counter of our Democratic electorate.

20. It is impossible for the sample to be sufficiently random. |
|
The fact that you and a number of DUers participate only proves the fact.
The vast majority of people who elect to participate in such polls are polarized partisans, not the wishy washy middle.
Zogby tries to sauce his polls up to make up for this deficiency, but his interactive polls are a big joke.

What evidence is there that all of Zogby respondents are polarized partisans?
If he polls many hundreds of thousands of individuals (and he does online), there will be more than enough people to draw from that represent demographically and politically, the voting public.
Zogby online polls are as random as any other top-tier polling firm. For the reasons why, see my prior response to another DUer.

|
Everyone signed up.
If you really believe enough people, (polls consistently say that people don't like being polled) who are not politically engaged activists on either side of the spectrum, signed up and then took time out of their own day and on their own initiative to make the sample sufficiently random and representative, then I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.

30. Um, Zogby says Hilary has requested more Zogby online polls than any other candidate; |
|
Her campaign seemed to put plenty of trust in Zogby's online polling until a result came out that showed Hilary would lose the election for Dems.
Here's a letter Zogby has posted that explains it all. If Hilary really wants to do her party a favor, she should drop out of the race and let Edwards or Obama have the nomination, or better yet, a ticket combining the two--both of whom can beat a Republican in the general, according to Zogby, one of the most reputable pollsters in the industry:
Released: November 27, 2007 Mark Penn: Buckling Under the Pressure of an Unfavorable Poll
All is fair in love and war, the centuries–old proverb states. Politics is not included, but given the way the game is played in modern–day America, maybe it should be. That’s the sense I had again this morning watching Mark Penn, the chief political strategist for Democrat Hillary Clinton, denigrate our latest Zogby Interactive survey simply because it showed his client in a bad light (Link to Latest Poll Number). Penn made the contention on the MSNBC morning news program hosted by Joe Scarborough (Link to Video)
Penn mischaracterized this latest online Zogby poll as our first interactive survey ever – a bizarre contention, since we have been developing and perfecting our Internet polling methodology for nearly a decade (Zogby Intreractive Methodology), and since Penn’s company has been quietly requesting the results of such polls from Zogby for years. We always comply as part of our pledge to give public Zogby polling results to any and every candidate and campaign that asks for them. What is interesting is that no other campaign has made as many requests for Zogby polling data over the years than Penn has made on behalf of Clinton.
Because Mark Penn is a quality pollster himself, we chalk up his contention that our poll is “meaningless” as a knee–jerk reaction by a campaign under pressure coming down the stretch. Several other polls – Zogby surveys and others – have shown her national lead and her leads in early–voting states like Iowa and New Hampshire have shrunk. This is not unusual. These presidential contests usually tighten as the primaries and caucuses approach.
