This week Adolf Hitler finally got on the cover of Time magazine
although he has to share it with Gandhi! I thought it had always been Time policy to not show the former leader of the Third Reich!!

1. I thought Hilter was on the cover when he was alive.

2. He was. I once had that magazine, which I found in a box in the attic
of a place I was renting. I don't remember the year, but I think it was pre-war. Same box had a Time with Stalin on the cover, from 1943, IIRC.

10. Our neighbors had an old garage with an upstairs loft which
had boxes of WWII Life Magazines and I think I augmented my skimpy childhood knowledge of the war (and the Home Front) by reading those. This was in the late 1950's.

3. That is true
He was selected as Time's 'Man of the Year' in 1938. You'll excuse me if I don't reproduce the image; it's just too unsettling.

4. He was on the cover as Man of the Year
on January 2, 1939. I don't think he's on the cover this week, in 2007.

5. He was actually not on the cover of Time but instead there
Edited on Tue Nov-27-07 11:59 PM by Hardrada
was some sort of art work portraying a tiny figure of him facing away while playing a warlike pipe organ. Not the same as a picture of him. Or perhaps I am thinking of the issue about Munich. I stand corrected since that old Time cover seems legit. I collect some of the more interesting old magazines but I've never seen that one!

7. Time named him Man of the Year for 1938, and had him on the cover at least twice.

Here's one link. He was also on the cover at least on April 14, 1941, and again when his death was revealed May 2, 1945.

I think that back then, though, they thought he was a pretty bad guy.

Edit to add info in headline.

8. Thanks. That was the cover I was thinking of. I used to have
a copy of that but don't know where it went.
