Kucinich: IN DEFENSE OF DEMOCRACY |
|
We all know that something is very wrong in our country. The Rule of Law, the Balance of Powers, and our Constitutionally guaranteed Civil Liberties have been under sustained assault by an Administration that is brazen and unrepentant in its abuses of our rights and our founding principles. And, to make matters worse, the Democratic leadership of the House and the Senate have failed to exercise the Constitutional authority granted to Congress to stop those abuses and hold violators accountable.
The results? The powers of the Executive Branch have gone unchecked and its policies unchallenged. The Congress and the American people were deceived into an illegal and immoral war in Iraq, and those same deceptions and manipulations are being used to justify a new war in Iran. The government is spying on its own citizens, ignoring judicial protections and due process, denying the right of habeas corpus, and refusing to abide by international laws, treaties, and principles.
Our nation faces a crisis, yet its leaders, and the candidates campaigning for the Presidency, refuse to acknowledge or address it in any substantive way. That's why it's time for: A DIALOGUE FOR DEMOCRACY.
This Thursday, November 29, Democratic Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich will host an unprecedented "Dialogue for Democracy" forum that will be streamed LIVE on the Internet at KucinichTV.com. Along with invited guests, Dennis will bring this crisis to the attention of the nation and the world so we can better understand what's wrong, and, more importantly, what we can do about it. The first segment of the LIVE broadcast begins at 11 a.m. and continues until 1 p.m. The LIVE forum will resume at 5 p.m. and end at 9:30 p.m.

1. Kucinich ought to buy some infomercials |
|
Seriuously. DK could buy some airtime for one of those 30 minute infomercials. Instead of hawking Time Life CD's, he could actually explain his policies and platform directly to voters without the filters.
I'll bet he'd be doing a lot better if voters actually had a chance to listen to him in something otehr than a 30-second soundbyte.

he doesn't possess the people skills to stop acting like a raving lunatic. Maybe more people would back him, if he did. I put him right up there with Gravel with his irrational demeanor.

he doesn't come across well, and his lack of support shows that. He intentionally went against the democratic party, when they said, for whatever reason, that impeachment was off the table, he took it upon himself, to backstab them, and go for impeachment. That's irrational thinking. Maybe the dems had another plan for Bush. Did DK ever think of that? Of course not. It's all about Dk. He also thought this stance would propel him into the top tier, and it hasn't.
Of course I would have liked to see Bush and Cheney impeached, but I think the dem's had a totally different plan, and he has become the cog in the wheel.
As I've said many, many times, he is right on a few things, but he goes about it wrong.

6. I guess the best I can do is agree to disagree. |
|
Kucinich was showing leadership in H.R.333 something his co-DEMS have failed miserably at. I don't think of him as a cog in the wheel but as a spark to ignite the debate.
I'd LOVE to know what the other plan the Dems have for Bush! I don't think there is one unless it's to wait until he's out of office and then maybe do something about *'s destruction of the country and it's values.
You've sorta answered yourself: When you say he's right about a few things and add that you would like to see bush/cheney impeached how then would you propose he go about it if not bring it to the floor of the House? To me, that's the right way to go about it. I don't even like to think about the damage that * can bring down on this country during his remaining months in office. There will be no blood on Kucinich's hands, should bush do something really dastardly, which is more than I can say about most of the presidential candidates.

7. Too many assumptions, too many unknowns |

I would suggest that Kucinich, as a member of the House, knows a lot more about the plans of the House Dems than do we. Either he knew they'd do nothing and decided to force the issue, or he agreed to walk point to gauge public sentiment on the issue, thus allowing the leadership to appear 'above it all'. Perhaps a third alternative that I, not privy to the discussions of the House Dems, cannot figure out inductively. But the idea that he is ignorant of his caucus's plans and intentions seems most unlikely.
Is Kooch annoying? Sure is. It would be a lot better if he explained himself AS he acts instead of letting the whole story come out later, but there it is. And he usually turns out to be right in the long run.
