Star Parker recently wrote a column criticizing Democrat efforts to save the poor
from predatory lending. Read at: http://www.kitsapsun.com/news/2007/nov/10/star-parker-how-to-limit-home-ownership-for-poor/

My response, for what it is worth (free):

Ms. Star Parker,
Regarding your article that discusses limiting home ownership for the poor. From your take on the issue, I am going to guess that you are not poor and can’t really associate with the poor. You defend the predators, the companies that prey on the poor and lower classes. I have seen it first hand. Predators selling cars, houses and furniture to poor people for twice what they are worth but on credit. The poor have little choice. Then the car, the house and furniture become junk long before the credit obligation is paid off. I guess you’d rationalize that with your “free market” let the stupid buyer beware. Then when they hit the wall, the republicans have made bankruptcy harder for poor families and easier for republican friendly corporations. Conservative judges are allowing corporations to default on their commitments to pay their employees their retirements, while allowing the corporation officers to take home billions.
I believe that one main purpose of government (which of course is intended to be "we the people") is to protect the vulnerable from the unscrupulous. I take it you are a republican that believes the purpose of government is to exploit the lower classes and enrich the wealthy.
You provide a quote from the WSJ, which we know of course is always looking out for the poor. The quote provides a statistic that “80% of sub-prime loans are being repaid on time”.
I don’t know but willing to bet that the statistic means that the poor are making payments but not making headway on any equity. In words of the Mob, they are just paying the “vick”. Loan sharking, when done by the Mob, was considered illegal. Then the republicans decided to get in the game. Now republicans are the Mob.
The American Dream is dying if not already dead. Industries and their jobs are being shipped over seas, encouraged by the republican government. The 40 hours work week is long gone. A household has to work approx 80 hours to make ends meet. College educations for our children are quickly becoming a thing of the past. The republicans decided that loaning students money for college was a big money maker. Of course most graduating students can never get out from under their student loan debts. Unions are being wiped out. The republicans have left our borders open for cheap laborers to come into the country. The deregulation of corporations started by Reagan has allowed republican greed to run rampant (e.g. Enron, Halliburton, Blackwater, General Electric, Exxon). The last time this happened we had the Great Depression.
Greed, torture, spying, secret prisons, Taylor, Texas detention camps, selling us out to the communists, indiscriminate burning of thousands of women and children with phosphorus bombs, ignoring our returning veterans, are not Christian values, but certainly republican values.
How does a republican sleep at night?
