Green Day ? .... In General Discussion:Politics ?
Edited on Sat Dec-01-07 01:32 AM by Trajan
Fuckin A YEAH ! ....

So; There I was, watching the 'My Night At The Grammy's' thing on TV, which was a '50 Greatest (most popular, that is) Grammy Moments Ever' kinda show ......

I had NO idea that this performance would stand a chance of placing in single digits ...... Not THAT song ...... right ?

Wrong: Greenday - American Idiot ..... Numero Uno ..... A politically explosive anthem from a politically conscious rock band ....

Im sorry, but I am one who thrives on political polemic in the world of art .... American Idiot is superb polemical art .... A condemnation of the ridiculous false patriotism and jingoistic impulses that have characterized the current leadership, AND their mindless supporters ....

And no; I am NOT sorry .....

To Wit: American Idiot ...

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new mania
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind fuck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alienation
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones meant to follow
For that's enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along to the age of paranoia

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alienation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information age of hysteria.
It's going out to Idiot America™.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alienation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

To think MORE Grammy poll voters selected THAT song as the number ONE choice out of 50 'Best Grammy Moments' ...... Fans must have clobbered the poll site ....

Nevertheless; Congrats, Boys ...

1. That is my favorite song.
51 years old, and that was my ringtone on my cellphone for 3 years.

Recently changed it to John Lennon's "Give peace a chance'.

K/R for one of the greatest songs ever written :)

Green Day Rocks! American Idiot was blasted out of my car for months. It was the first anti-right-wing song to come out at the time. Great, Great song.

5. I was watching, too. It was why I tuned in. Sat through
some less than stellar stuff to get there (Alan Jackson, please...no), but it was awesome and worth the wait. American Idiot. Sums it up nicely.

Gabba Gabba Hey

Something else to think about:

"I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies"
- Green Day

This is straight from JoeTrippi.com In fact, they are the first words that draw you in.

Campaign manager for... who?

11. Green Day is awsome.
Their whole American Idiot album was very good. "American Idiot," "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," and "Holiday" are all great songs! I especially like that part of the song "Holiday" where how Billy Joe Armstrong calls Bush "President Gas Man."

13. Yeah ... Green Day is one of THOSE kinds of bands ....
Edited on Sat Dec-01-07 02:05 PM by Trajan
They write 'exemplars' of rock music .... They churn out inventive and delicious rock cliches that are always fresh and thoughtful .... I love that high energy stuff ....

Im also a fan of Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails ..... Here is 'Capital G' from their latest : 'Year Zero' ...

Capital G

I pushed the button and elected him to office and a
He pushed the button and he dropped the bomb
You pushed the button and could watch in on the television
Those motherfuckers didn't last too long

I'm sick of hearing about the have and have not's
Have some personal accountability
The biggest problem with the way that we are doing things is
The more we let you have the less that I'll be keeping for me

Well I use to stand for something
Well I'm on my hands and knees
Turning in my god for this one
and he signs his name with a capital G

Don't give a shit about the temperature in Guatemala
Don't really see what all the fuss is about
Ain't gonna worry about no future generations
And I'm sure somebody's gonna figure it out

Don't try to tell me that some power can corrupt a person
You hadn't had enough to know what its like
Your only angry cause you wish you were in my position
Now nod your head cause you know that I'm right..alright!

Well I use to stand for something
But forgot what that could be
Theres a lot of me inside you
Maybe your afraid to see

Well I use to stand for something
Well I'm on my hands and knees
Turning in my god for this one
and he signs his name with a capital G

Trent wears his political disgust on his sleeve : Year Zero is a work of genius in my view ....

12. My sweet l'il innocent ten-year-old daughter adores Green Day
She has been listening to nothing else but the American Idiot album over and over again for months. That and a few of her favorites from earlier albums.

I don't try to influence her tastes in music, so I stay low-key about it. But inwardly, I'm so proud of her I could bust. Even if the music is sprinkled with swear-words.

Tomorrow she wants me to begin giving her guitar lessons. The first song in her life that her little fingers will be struggling to wrap themselves around will be "Good Riddance" from the Nimrod album.

14. When I began playing ....
Edited on Sat Dec-01-07 02:12 PM by Trajan
I looked to those musicians who exemplified the art of rock music: In those days: Lennon, Page, Blackmore, Hendrix, and Bowie were the strongest inspirational influences for me ....

Everyone has their personal likes and dislikes, but Green Day happens to possess a great sensibility expressed between softer, pop art and hard edged, high energy rock anthems .... They provide a great foundation for rock guitar style ..... They are today's ultimate '3 piece rock band' ...

Good luck to your daughter ....

17. I'm just old enough to remember the transition between the 50's/early 60's
and the years of "the movement".

Mark my words: times are changing, again. And that song chosen as #1 is one of the signs.

My only hope is that the change comes peacefully. There is a radical right dedicated to making it not so, and a corporate ruling class willing as always to back the fascists if push comes to shove.
