Edwards Statement on Safe Resolution of Situation at Hillary Clinton Campaign Office in Rochester
Edwards Statement on Safe Resolution of Situation at Hillary Clinton Campaign Office in Rochester, New Hampshire
John Edwards for President
Friday, November 30, 2007

----
Manchester, NH – Senator John Edwards released the following statement on news that all hostages were safely released from Hillary Clinton's Rochester, NH campaign office and no citizens or law enforcement officials were harmed:

"Elizabeth and I send our thoughts and prayers to everyone involved in the situation in Rochester, New Hampshire today. We are thankful that no one was harmed and deeply admire the brave work of the Rochester Police Department, the New Hampshire State Police and all of the law enforcement agencies whose handling of the situation today kept everyone safe.

"Everyday Americans who stand up and get involved on behalf of the candidates they believe in represent the very best of our democracy. While we may support different candidates, each and every one of us are united by a belief that together, we can make our country the best it can be. We are so grateful that no one working today was harmed, and we send our warmest thoughts to Senator Clinton and her entire staff."

1. Class act, every single time.

2. Actually, no, he's not a class act every single time
i.e. his sexist comment about not liking Sen. Clinton's clothes, during one of the previous debates.

I can't recall a time when one Presidential candidate, commented on not liking the clothes of another Presidential candidate.

While it was nice of him to release the statement about the hostage situation, I just thought I'd correct the record about John Edwards supposedly being a class act every single time. He's not.

3. Did you even watch the debate?
It was clearly a joke that both he, senator clinton, and the other candidates laughed at.

4. Yes, I watched the debate. I wouldn't have commented on it, if I hadn't watched it.
And I don't care who laughed at it. I didn't think it was funny. I know it was supposed to be a light-hearted moment. But I didn't like it.

For me, it just seemed to re-inforce that women in politics still have a long way to go, to be taken seriously. His commenting about her clothes, just came across to me as really sexist. It's bad enough that some men still look at women through only one prism (as sex objects), and his commenting about her clothes just brought that home for me.

5. Right. Because you didn't think it was funny, it was a sexist comment.
Get real.

6. I am real. I'm saying I thought he made a sexist comment. And I didn't find it funny.
Again, you don't hear male presidential candidates, commenting on the clothing of other male presidential candidates.

When is the last time you heard Dennis Kucinich commenting on Mike Gravel's suit?

So the fact that John Edwards chose to comment on the clothing of the FEMALE presidential candidate, for me speaks volumes about him.

7. When was the last time you heard any candidate make a comment about any other candidate's wardrobe?
Never. So cherry picking one instance and calling it sexist is ridiculous.

8. Are you really that clueless? I just told you the last time I heard a candidate commenting about
another candidate's clothing......that would be John Edwards commenting about Hillary Clinton's clothes. That's the last time.

Can you even read?

9. Can you actually answer my question and not turn this in to an argument about semantics?
Fine, when was the last time (other than edwards and clinton) that you heard a candidate comment on another candidate's clothing?

10. Never.....which, again, reinforces my point about John Edwards being a sexist
Edited on Sat Dec-01-07 11:43 PM by journalist3072
When Geraldine Ferraro was running for Veep, I didn't hear any comments about her clothes.

Back in 2004, I didn't hear anyone commenting on Carol Mosley Braun's clothes when she was running for President.

So, it just reinforces my view about John Edwards being a sexist, and reinforces my original point in this thread, that he's not always the class act that another poster claimed he is.

You're absolutely correct: no one else did this before John Edwards did. So thank you for reinforcing my point that John Edwards has not elevated the conversation in this country, and he's been reduced to commenting on the clothing of another candidate.

11. Did they ask other candidates in the years with Mosley Braun and Ferraro what they disliked most
about the person next to them? It's a no win situation there. If edwards had said something he legitimately disliked, he would have been crucified for going negative. if he had said there wasn't anything he would have been smeared as being insincere. so he chose to make a joke which you are taking out of context and blowing way out of proportion.

13. This really has nothing to do with Edwards. At some point, these guys need to learn to STFU.
Some poor, mentally ill guy cries out for help and Edwards and Rudith G try to gain some votes over it.

17. Wow. Issuing a statement expressing relief that a tense situation is over.
Wow. Somebody does need to STFU, but it ain't Edwards.

"Try to gain some votes over it"?

Go suck an egg.
