Bill Richardson Appreciation Thread
I appreciate the fact that he said he wants to add transgendered men and women to those covered by hate crimes legislation ...

11. Since there are only a handful of us here, I'll apologize if it was my actions
You've mentioned this in a couple of threads on Richardson. Since there are only a few us I'll apologize for myself and the group.

4. Here's a great reason to appreciate Richardson: 2013IsTooLate.com

Clinton, Obama, and Edwards won't even commit to having all our troops out by 2013. SERIOUSLY. Six more years of war -- isn't the cost already too high?
Bill Richardson is the only major candidate who wants ALL the troops out now and pledges to end the war his first day in office and have ALL the troops out in 2009.
2009 or 2013 – it's our choice.
Ending the War: 2009 vs. 2013

At the MSNBC debate at Dartmouth College (Sept. 26, 2007), the candidates were asked to pledge that by January 2013 there will no U.S. troops in Iraq. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and John Edwards wouldn’t – Bill Richardson did.

6. He's very popular in New Mexico, we lived there for a while prior to moving to Arizona.
We like him here as well.

8. I'd like to hear more from Richardson
I've heard his speech at the DNC meeting was excellent, though I haven't seen it, and unfortunately he was not at the Heartland conference yesterday.

My reservations about Richardson are obvious. He has a long association with the DLC, and I've seen him on FAUX Noize, where Sean Hannity referred to him as a "good friend". Yet, what little I've seen from him in the Democratic debates, and what I see here in this thread, indicate that Bill has turned his back on the DLC party line to some degree.

There's no arguing the man's resume. Nor can you argue against the fact that governors have consistently won Presidential elections over the last 40 years, and senators have not. (Other than governors, the other winners have been vice presidents Poppy Bush and Al Gore).

He'll never replace Dennis as my first choice, but I hope he can make better use of what little camera time he gets and articulate his positions better.

BTW does anyone know why he skipped the Heartland thing?

9. I appreciate his diplomatic skills...
If he isn't used in the next administration in some diplomatic capacity, it will be a wasted opportunity.

10. As an earth scientist, I appreciate his environmental stance and record
He's the only one to talk about water policy

Though he comes from an oil and gas state, he's passed some of the most aggressive greenhouse gas reductions standards of any state

He's got the most aggressive green house gas reduction proposal of the candidates

He was addressing climate change in the late 80's before it was politically popular

He's stood against the killing of reintroduced wolves by Shrub Inc

He's protected millions of acres from mining and drilling

He passed the absolute toughest standards for drilling on private land

He's brought up international ocean policy in his speech on global sustainability

13. Richardson in many ways is the strongest candidate the Democrats could field
Voters are looking for change. They want someone who is "Not Bush" both politically and tempermentally. A seasoned diplomat with a record of bringing warring parties together, an experienced, innovative governor who comes off as a "regular guy" and does not set off alarms with rural voters but supports positions that most liberals could agree with is a good candidate to carry the party message.
