Biden Cosponsors Bill to Strengthen Presidential Campaign Public Financing System
(Bold emphasis is mine)

December 5, 2007 -- Washington, DC –

Today U.S. Senator Joseph R. Biden, Jr. (D-DE) joined Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) in introducing the Presidential Funding Act of 2007, to strengthen the existing presidential public financing system funded by voluntary taxpayer contributions. Shortly after his election to the Senate in 1972, Sen. Biden called for public financing for campaigns in testimony before the Senate Rules Committee. He has since been one of the Senate’s most ardent and steadfast advocates for overhauling campaign funding laws in favor of public financing.

“The presidential election should be about the power of ideas, not the influence of money,” said Senator Biden. “To protect the integrity of the system and the voice of the people against the fundraising power of special interests, we need to modernize the public financing system before it becomes irrelevant. For over thirty years, I have fought to reform how campaigns are funded. This bill is a good first step towards putting the public financing system in sync with modern presidential campaigns.”

1. Excellent. I am particularly happy to see every Democratic candidate co-sponsored it.

3. It really IS the only fair way. I feel as though between the money and the media
we've been railroaded this time - it's disturbing that's what's happening in America.

5. Feingold first introduced this bill, S.436, on 1/30/07. His sole cosponsor was Barack Obama.
Today, he has apparently reintroduced the bill--now numbered S. 2412. Let's hope it now gets out of the Senate Finance Committee, currently headed by Senator Max Baucus.

6. Biden first introduced this in the 70's - he recently rambled off all of his co-sponsors
And he said he's come to the conclusion that the only way it's going to ever get anywhere is when he is in office.
Because for 30 years it has gone nowhere.

7. Does Biden blame his yes vote on the egregious, one-sided bankruptcy bill on this, too?

And the trigger is the word "Biden".

See his name and they've got to regurgitate some non sequitor.

11. This thread is about his public financing legislation.
Why do you keep going back to ONE vote in his illustrious 35 year career no matter what the topic is? Like I said, you seem to have a hard-on for Biden and don't know how to deal.

BIDEN 08!

10. (I'm just gonna keep this on the clipboard...)
For the 400th time, Biden voted for the BK bill for one reason and one reason only. So mothers, with children, could get their child support payments, and alimony, before any other creditor, when a deadbeat dad files for BK. Go look it up.
Sometimes, senators have to vote for bad bill IF it includes something they REALLY want.

But, then Obama wouldn't really know that, since he fails to vote on controversial bills...

14. That's a load of shit
LMFAO!!!!!

That's why MBNA/ Bank of America (who's been spooging for years over the bill) have dumped millions of dollars to Biden over the years. Not only that, they pay his son $100k a year to keep him on retainer.

You buy into the bullshit politicians sell you way too easily.

I gotta bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. The procedes will go to a needy family.

15. I know it is election time, but should we not be happy that every single Democratic candidate is
cosponsor of the bill, rather than wondering who has fought the longer for election reform.

The question is not even for debate: it is Biden, because he has been in the Senate for a very long time. However, it is great that Obama, just like Biden many years ago, started working on these issues when he arrived in the Senate.

Even if Obama is my favorite, I like Biden and think these attacks are ludicrous.

17. It's about time, glad to see this and I hope in the future we can stop the Hollywoodizing of our
Presidential candidates and the whole process will move with ideas and not sound bites.
