Obama helped ex-boss, slum lord Tony Rezko partner, get $1 million from charity...
Edited on Thu Dec-06-07 10:12 PM by proud patriot
(edited for copyright purposes-proud patriot Moderator Democratic Underground)

Netting said boss, Allison Davis, $700,000 in "Development Fees," and providing his son with employment (whose management prowess is detailed here - "We Live in a Slum").

Davis of course, was Obama's boss at the law firm Obama worked at while a State Senator in Illinois, a firm that represented indicted slum lord Tony Rezko. The same Tony Rezko that Obama helped to acquire contracts to build low income housing (see "Barack Obama and his Slum Lord Patron"), even though previous projects built by Rezko were substandard and falling apart. In such bad shape in fact, some had to be boarded up. Davis and Rezko of course, were two of Obama's major patrons as he ran for a seat in the State Senate and later the U.S. Senate...

Seven years ago, Sen. Barack Obama was on the board of a Chicago charity when his former boss, Allison S. Davis, came looking for money.

At the time, Davis was a developer represented by the law firm where Obama worked, as well as a small contributor to Obama's political campaign funds. He wanted the charity to help fund his plans to build housing for low-income Chicagoans.

Obama agreed. He voted with other directors of the Woods Fund of Chicago to invest $1 million with Neighborhood Rejuvenation Partners L.P., a $17 million partnership that Davis still operates.

It's not clear whether Obama told other board members of his ties to Davis, whose family would go on to donate more than $25,000 to Obama's political campaigns, including his bid to be president of the United States.

...

Allison Davis is a real peach...

As a young lawyer, Allison S. Davis was a City Hall outsider.

He criticized Mayor Richard J. Daley over the 1968 riots. He worked to integrate Chicago neighborhoods. And he fought to elect judges based on legal ability, not political connections.

Today, Davis is a consummate City Hall insider.

He's a loyal ally of Mayor Richard M. Daley, who appointed Davis to Chicago's prestigious Plan Commission. Davis has gotten deal after deal from the mayor, helping to make Davis one of the city's top developers. And Davis has forged strong ties to the Daley family, doing deals with one of the mayor's nephews and giving legal business to Daley & George, mayoral brother Michael Daley's law firm.

Now, Davis finds himself in the glare of an unwanted spotlight.

One of his business partners, William Moorehead, recently began serving a four-year prison sentence for stealing more than $600,000 from at least 13 federally funded housing projects he managed -- including two buildings that he and Davis co-own. During the period Moorehead has admitted he was stealing the money, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned, he lent Davis $100,000 -- a loan that has drawn scrutiny from federal investigators, though Davis hasn't been accused of any wrongdoing.

...

Another of Davis' business partners, former top political fund-raiser Tony Rezko, is set to stand trial in February on charges he demanded kickbacks from companies seeking state teacher pension business under Gov. Blagojevich, a friend of Rezko.

And?

Yeah, Tony Rezko does not appear to be the best guy in the world. We know. How many people who are much much much worse are connected to Hillary Clinton.

What -- is her new slogan "He's a slimeball like me".

4. You are aware that Tony Rezko is an Arab American businessman indicted
by the Bush "Justice" Department, aren't you? And that Rezko was in Lebanon with his family ehwn the indictment came down, and came back to this country to turn himself in so he could clear his name? ANd that he also has close ties with the Democratic governor of Illinois?

He may be guilty as hell, but I'm more than willing to wait and see what comes out at trial.

For more on how the Bush "Justice " department is used to defame Democrats, try googling Don Siegelman.

Also, from your post -

City records show Davis used some of the money to build a 72-unit apartment building for senior citizens at 87th and Ashland. The $10 million project -- built with a $5.7 million loan from the city -- netted Davis nearly $700,000 in development fees, city records show. His son Cullen Davis is paid to manage the building, which opened three years ago with a ceremony featuring Mayor Daley.

This just in: Developer makes profit!

EDIT: No matter how tempting...it's no use getting in a pissing match with Hillary and her supporters. It would be far too easy anyway. http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/ny-usclin055488095dec05,0,7608014.story

before he leaves office and no doubt a regular visitor at the WH should Obama be installed as the next CIC..

Lovely, the circular crime net will now include Chicago as part of DC politics.

He's a good talker, I'll give him that, but I don't see much substance in the man. I guess that he's the candidate for our celebrity driven society. I still believe that voters will be intelligent enough to nominate someone who can actually win in the general election.

But I do think you're playing a losing kind of politics.

Your haphazard style of trying to duct tape separate stories wholly unlinked to Obama and drudge up this story is almost as good as Hillary's hacks trying to make issue with Obama's kindergarden paper.

Swing...and...a...miss!
