There are classy ways that candidates can disagree: Props to Chris Dodd
for this LTTE:

I don't always agree with Joe

By U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd, East Haddam, Conn. | Friday, December 07, 2007

U.S. Sen. Joe Biden’s clever ad that ran in last week’s paper pointed to several instances where his fellow Democratic candidates, including myself, have agreed with Joe.

While I think Joe is right on a lot of things, I do not agree with my good friend all the time. For instance, although we serve together on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, we differ greatly on how to resolve the conflict in Iraq. I believe that it is time to end our involvement in that country’s civil war by using the Congressional power of the purse, whereas Joe has voted to continue funding for this ill-conceived mission.

To me, this is solid old-school campaigning - and even though it's directed at my preferred candidate, you've got to respect the tone, approach and focus on the issues that Sen. Dodd expressed. He was effective in getting his point across.

Senator Dodd is a class-act.

1. Props to you
for saying something nice about another candidate and not bashing them! A breath of fresh air!

3. (crickets) Of course, stuff like this doesn't get much attention...
which is why, I suppose, it's rarely done.

4. I think it's admirable...
but Joe only voted for the funding to keep the troops furnished with the equipment to keep them safe(er). He stands by that decision, and even said it would be worth losing an election over, if it helped to save lives in Iraq.

6. I can see both sides of the issue...
we want to give Georgie the finger and say "no more money for your war"

At the same time, Georgie would not hesitate to use the Dem action as an excuse to screw-over the troops (once again), then blame the Dems for it. I think most Americans understand Biden's strategy, and the only reason it doesn't sit well is a consequence of the big mess Asshole-in-chief got us into.

But the larger point is: Biden's not a "Bush enabler" for his decision, and Dodd supports the troops as much as anybody else. Both Senators aren't trying to villify the other side - they realize the common goal of getting out of Iraq with minimal damage, and simply have different approaches to going about it.

9. Dodd just slammed Bush on CNN about the latest faux pas, the tapes
destroyed by the CIA of detainees being tortured. He was very impressive. As each day passes, I'm more and more impressed with this "bottom tier" of candidates: Dodd, Biden, Richardson.. and so very sad they don't get more airtime. But I'm also very proud that these candidates are out talking about the critical issues facing our country and not parading around with celebrities or trying to raise a few more million dollars to campaign with.
