dean campaign did not switch to a corked bat.....apology
Edited on Mon Dec-29-03 04:14 PM by bearfartinthewoods
being unfamiliar with the dean bat system, i thought the new bat was a retrenchment and not SOP. my apologies to all the dean supporters.

i changed the title so this doesn't get locked for rule infractions like my last one did and ya'll can kick me around for the rest of the year!

3. this is a decidely unhelpful post
Dean's orig bat was progressing rather nicely throughout the day and was $758k the last I looked about 2:00PM CST. Whether or not they would get to $1.5m is anybody's guess. Now they are shooting for a different target. So what?

Does anybody really care except for some die-hard anti-Dean's who look for any little insignificant speck to blow up into a shit pile? I don't care who you support, but threads like this are POINTLESS, TIRESOME, AND INSULTING to anyone with a modicum of intelligence and good judgment.

6. Well, for those who made fun of Kerry's mortgage
maybe they'll quit playing 'keeping up with the Jonses' on raising funds.

9. But it's the same target
The first was 1.5M was what was need to reach 14,831,982.61 for the quarter. Now, instead of $1.5 million, the bat represents the They represent the same thing. The 1.5M represented on the previous bat would have taken the campaign to last quarter's record 14,831,982.61. The new bat simply shows the total for the quarter, with the same goal: 14,831,982.61 quarterly goal.

They increased the goal for midnight December 31st by $40,000 or so. Different graphic, bigger goal, no cork.

21. It's an impressive figure
Kudos to the Dean campaign for their efforts :toast:

One question, though:

With all the endorsements and "momentum" Dean gained this quarter (AFSCME, SEIU, JJ jr., Gore, etc.), are any of you a bit surprised Dean hasn't surpassed what he raised in the 3rd quarter?

I mean, he's still raising mad bank.

But I would've guessed that with all the big hitters who came on board this quarter, and his climb up the polls, Dean would've done more than just repeat what was raised from July - September.

Regardless, it's still a good chunk of change :hi:

10. They did this last quarter too...
Just merely took the current bat and moved it to the context of the whole quarter. Im pretty sure they did this last time too. Took me a second. But anyway, wow. Thats some fundraising for this quarter. They are on fire. Maybe Ill see myself tossing something in if Dean wins the primaries.

So in essence, there is no cork, only mild confusion, and a chance for non-dean supporters to suggest something inflammatory momentarily. Couldn't let it slide, eh? Didn't think so....

11. Actually, the Campaign just raised the bar I believe...
Today, we were about halfway to the goal of 1.5 million or $750,000 from target.

Now, $800,000 and change is needed to meet the revised goal.

14. Actually he just RAISED the goal
1,500,000.00 - 758,000 = 742,000 Remaining on the old goal

14,831,962.61 - 14,020,657.75 = 811,304.86 Remaining on NEW GOAL

Feel free to cry in your teacup now.

15. Nope, they did this at the end of last quarter too
It's a new bat because it's the last 3 days of the quarter. The other bat would have been broken easily. Chances are, they just switched it to a quarter total rather than have two bats. It also will get a lot of good press and help keep the momentum building all the way to Iowa. And if Harkin endorses between the end of the quarter and the Iowa caucas, all the better.

17. what?
with $200,000 raised yesterday and $20,000 per hour earlier today coming in. This is not new. Dean did it last quarter as well as the quarter was coming to an end he put up a bat to indicate what they have raised so far during the quarter. And by the way, if you look at the bat it does indicate what we need to raise to beat last year. The old bat already was almost half way there and with house parties, ect we will break last quarters record and raise more than $15 million.

27. Actually, the "corked bat" reference is correct in some ways
A corked bat hits a baseball harder and farther. As the new goal was a little harder, it would technically be a reasonable literary reference in some ways.

However, as corked bats are illegal in baseball, people might jump to the wrong conclusion about linking illegality and fundraising. I'm trying to make it clear in this post that I'm not being critical or yelling at anyone. I'm just saying that a "corked bat" reference might not be a good one to use in the future.

Not mad... just trying to avoid a future misunderstanding. ;)

Thank you for your earnest apology. It shows a lot of class.

The error seems an honest mistake, and there are too many on these boards who would have let pride force them to continue to beat the dead horse, or turned it into a back-handed jab at Dean despite the facts. Thanks for taking the high road.

32. Ohio?

check out this MAP and tell me how we win without the south?

THE LAST TIME WE WON WITHOUT A SOUTHERNER ON THE TICKET WAS ROOSEVELT

I clicked on Ohio and, voila! 280 Democratic electoral votes.

I then reset the map and clicked Nevada and Arizona, both of which Novak reports Republicans as saying they expect to lose in '04. Again, we win without the South.

Was that a rhetorical question? Cause the swing states are mostly in the Midwest and Southwest, not the South.
