EU threatens to boycott US-led climate talks

BALI, Indonesia - European nations will boycott U.S.-led climate talks next month unless Washington accepts a range of numbers for negotiating deep reductions of global-warming emissions, Germany's environment minister said Thursday.

“I think those that suggest that we magically find an agreement on a metric when we are just starting ... that in itself is a blocking effort,” said Jim Connaughton, the chairman of the White House Council on Environmental Quality. “We need to free up this conversation so we can have the deliberation to find as much consensus and collective engagement.”

This country is being run by a dictatorship.

Over the past few years we have consistently heard how Iran has massive amounts of nuclear weapons. We have also heard how North Korea has even more nuclear weapons. When the Bush administration was called on to talk to those nations about disarmament there would always be the clause that Bush would not talk to them unless they abandoned their nuclear programs first. We now know that Iran has no nuclear weapon program like they told us all along. We also know whatever nuclear program the North Koreans had amounted to "household style fireworks".

But when you tell the Bush administration we are not talking to you unless you agree to green house gas emissions reduction targets, they counter with something like the paragraph above. As we know both North Korea is run by a dictator. We could almost say the same for Iran. So the conclusion is we are being governed by a dictator. The only difference is that it is a fact that we emit the highest levels of green house gases. But both Iran & North Korea really do not have nuclear weapons.
