Obama To Hillary: "I'm Looking Forward To You Advising Me"
By Greg Sargent - December 13, 2007, 3:36PM
This might have been the debate's best moment. Toward the end came this exchange:

MODERATOR: Senator Obama, you have Bill Clinton's former National Security Adviser, State Department policy director and maybe secretary among others, advising you. With relatively little foreign policy experience of your own, how will you rely on so many Clinton advisers, and still deliver the kind of break from the past that you're promising voters?
(Laughter)

Obama: You know I am --

Hillary: (Laughing) I want to hear that.

Obama: Well, Hillary, I'm looking forward to you advising me as well. (Laughter)

I'd say that this exchange very neatly captures many of the Campaign 2008's various underlying tensions and absurdities, wouldn't you?

22. Yes, we'll never know how Obama would have voted, being a
freshman senator and all. HRC waited deliberately until she won re-election handily.

As for advisors, it appears Obama went after them

Edited on Thu Dec-13-07 03:57 PM by Harvey Korman
but my intuition is that some women might have a visceral reaction when a man looks at a powerful woman and says, basically, "your place is working under me," even though Obama could easily have said the same thing to a man. It also just looks like a put-down since it's obvious Clinton and Obama will never work together regardless of who wins the nomination.

I could be wrong. But some of the commenters on TPM seem to reflect what I'm saying.

at such an inept comment. You NEVER place the president in a position where he/she could be used as a tool of an enemy nation's propaganda. Meetings are essential, but they are first conducted with lower level emissaries. A face to face meeting with the president is a bargaining chip which should be used at the right moment and after much deliberation.

Who else but an immeasurably arrogant individual would have the gall to act as if with, at the time, barely 2 years in the US senate he was prepared enough and worthy to run for president? That's the main thing that strikes me about the man, his sheer assumption that he's fit for the job. It's so mindboggling!!!!!

he deprives the Democratic Party of a very good President in 2016.

Of all the current Democratic Candidates he'd have been the best choice for an incumbent VP going into the 2016 elections.

I'd have welcomed a seasoned Obama.

I like him. He can probably even win the election. But I worry greatly about his prospects as a President.

112. You were clear in your post
Given the dates you provided. I posted those facts because I think it's laughable that rivals attack Obama on his foreign policy experience, given his committee assignments.

Most senators avoid Foreign Relations because there is no money involved. But it should be noted that Obama took that assignment, and spent his first August break traveling former Soviet-states with Richard Lugar investigating nuclear proliferation. And his next break was spent in Africa investigating AIDS and poverty. He's shown the US is committed to solving the problems of the world, nt just the US.

I still haven't decided who I'm voting for, but Obama, Biden, and Edwards are the guys I'm looking at right now. We can restore our place in world affairs, and I think those are the candidates we should be looking at right now.

46. That video encapsulated perfectly everything wrong with Hillary Clinton.
She's earned the negativity by her negative, arrogant, abrasive, condescending personality.

There is no "vast right wing conspiracy" against her. She's earned her baggage, and she deserves her baggage.

Edited on Thu Dec-13-07 07:05 PM by calteacherguy
is why the American people will reject her.

She'll just too full of herself. We need a President who will listen respectfully to a wide variety of views, and base their actions on all the opinions and evidence gathered. Obama has the right kind of attitude and personality for the Presidency. Hillary does not.

Obama showed true character by remaining gracious towards her in his response.

All in all I'd say Biden and Edwards did best

Obama and Clinton drew about even.

Richardson was a little better than Dodd.

61. Obama to Hillary: Lead from the top..
"Mr. Obama made clear that a signal had to be sent from the top down of the campaign that these types of tactics are out of bounds."

It is fairly sad that someone whom Hillary paints as inexperienced and unable to lead, has to tell her (at the point of her apology) how to get control of her own people. He is right. And if she cannot keep control of her staff, or if something about the way she runs her campaign prompts her followers to engage in this type of behavior, it sends an overall signal. And not a signal that people are liking.

94. HOW DARE SHE
Not act like a "Lady!" She forgot her place today. She needs to remember that you
catch more flies with sugar than with vinegar. She needs to remember that being sweet
wins more than being sour. Real Ladies are "respectful." Someone needs to teach that
girl manners!

Women who are too full of themselves are acting unreasonable. Ambition has no place in a
lady! Real women don't publicly show disdain for anyone. HER attitude is BAD. She is a
BAD GIRL.

Her behaviour was unkind and uncharitable and unladylike and she needs to change her
bitchy ways!

One of the great traits I see in Obama is a willingness and desire to listen to a wide variety of views...even from political opponents.

He has an open, intelligent, curious mind and that's a strength, not a weakness.

108. beautiful comeback, highlights Clinton's biggest problem
setting my opinions on the political persuasions and loyalties candidates hold aside, acting purely from the gut, she just doesn't have the charisma the other front runners have.

it's silly, it's an unfair way to judge, and it has nothing to do with how candidates will vote or act, but it'll turn an election.
