Somebody please tell me why!
Why does the democratically controlled Congress always cave in to the White House?

Why do they not listen to their "constituents" and vote their "constituents" wishes when those wishes are in the vast majority?

Why does the leadership of both Houses, after thousands of e.mails, telephone calls and letters endorse legislation that is detrimental to the country?

Why does Congress vote to authorize more money for the war in Iraq when they tell the American citizens that they do not support this war?

Why does not Congress, at the very least, raise an objection when Bush uses another "Signing Statement" to void the very piece of legislation that he just authorized?

Why does not Congress even acknowledge that the administration is lying to the people?

Why does not Congress even acknowledge that VP Cheney is acting outside the Constitution of The United States?

I have waited patiently for Congress to stand up as an elected body that is sworn to uphold the Constitution of The United States from all enemies both foreign and domestic. There is no doubt that enemies of The United States are within our borders. These enemies subvert the Constitution and The Bill of Rights with impunity.

The elected Congress does nothing to stop the eradication of the Constitution and in fact aids in the destruction of the Constitution of The United States.

Our elected "officials" have decided that they are far more able to handle the "complex" situations that face us today. They have decided that we the people are stupid and cannot possibly comprehend the gravity of the situation. I would like to tell them that we The People comprehend the situation perfectly and we see through their charade and can tell them that they are wrong and we are right.

I would like to be able to do that, but they won't listen and the majority of Americans ARE too stupid to realize what is happening to their country and to them. They do not realize that their freedoms are being taken away nor that they are being viewed as third class citizens nor that their "leaders" are directing them down the path of destruction. Destruction not only for them but for their children and grand children and great-grand children.

These fascists that have seized control of the government will not stop until all of your freedoms have been eliminated and they attain world domination. That has been tried before. The latest was when Adolph Hitler attempted to do the same thing. if you re-visit history you will find that this current "administration" is doing the same thing that Hitler tried to do.They are attempting to gain world domination through war and intimidation and do it for the benefits of the few. And believe me, YOU ARE NOT AMONG THE FEW.

We did not elect a president.

I should say that the man that was elected President of the United States is not the man sitting in the White House. The man that won the election is Al Gore but he did not serve as President because the supreme court denied a legal count of the votes and gave the election to George W. Bush. The least acceptable person to be president than say,.... myself. Actually, I could do a much better job at president than bush has done.

Our priorities were right in the 2006 election. We elected people that promised to hold those who started this war of lies accountable for their actions. The problem is that the elected officials did not fulfill their obligations. Not their obligations to their constituancy nor the electorate. instead they fulfilled their obligations to their corporate sponsors and sold you and I down the river.

Don't YOU see?

31. Of course I see. That's what we get when we vote for the "electable" candidate.
In our zeal for a Dem win, we've lost sight of the fact that most Dems are little better than Repubs when it comes to representing their constituents.

We don't need to elect Dems, we need to elect leaders who listen.

9. It is not a military coup.
It is a coup. A military coup would mean a quick lethal blow to the government system, whatver that system is/was.

This coup was a political coup that succeeded because of public apathy.

Remember this: Every democracy must be fed with the blood of patriots from time to time. To shed blood means personal sacrifice. Are you willing to make a personal sacrifice for freedom?

4. I think the thing that may be stopping our Democratic Congress
is the fear Bush will validate the Homeland and National Security Directives he signed in May of this year to take over the nation.

He may end up doing it anyway at any time he feels like it. Who is going to stop him??

Oddly enough, during Clinton's term, the Republicans
never had numbers approaching 60, let alone 66, yet they
managed to get things done. (Of course Clinton was a
"new Democrat", a.k.a., an Eisenhoweresque Republican
so maybe that affected the Congress's performance as
well.

the Senate plays in US politics. Frustrating, but only because it's meant to be. So every generation has to learn for itself that change takes time and patience.

17. More democrats
are not the answer. That is only fuel to the fire.

More democrats.

More to capitulate to a psychotic idiot? Why the hell would we want more democrats? Let's take a look at the democrats. Steny Hoyer, Nancy Pelosi, Diane Feinstein, Harry Reid, etc. What we need are more patriots like Dennis Kucinich, Chris Dodd, etc. (I couldn't think of any more)

This has gone way beyond party affiliation. This has gone to the level of true patriotism. Patriotism as in willing to die for your belief in the values of freedom.

Our founders did that exact thing. Please don't limit our founders to the names that were emblasened upon the Constitutiojn of the United States.

Our founders were true patriots. When Patrick Henry said "Give me liberty or give me death", he was not kidding. Is it Iowa that says "Live Free or Die?" If I am wrong and I get a lot of posts telling me how stupid I am should I assume that the people telling me that I am wrong are patriotic or am I to assume that they remember something that they heard and are just repeating it?

I guess I am asking what does it take to become a true patriot. Does it take the guts to stand in front of your president and say that "You're wrong Mr. president" or does it just take a person to say, "No, that is not right.?

Answer: Both.

To say "That is just not right" about a prejudice or anything that you see as intolerable is patriotism. It is not the news grabbing super human feat that shouts patriotism. Yes, those times, as in war, evoke super human heroic actions that are called heroic and rightly so. When someone stands up and says, Hey, that is not right! is also heroic. If you stand in the middle of a crowd and you voice your opinion that is different than those around you, YOU ARE A HERO!

Stand up to these politicians. being either democrat or republican, and tell them Hell NO!!!!

Please!!!

Because 13 DLC'ers vote like Republicans more than 50% of the time. Some of them can count their Democratic votes on one hand. And I do mean votes on REAL issues here, not mindless pork projects or video game censorship.

They are all of the above.

They will not investigate because the investigation will only involve themselves.

They have no qualms about lying through their teeth while shouting the truths of their convictions. Their truths are not even related to the real world. They have abandoned you and me and the guy/gal next to you. Yes, that means you. The politicians have sold you out in order to make a buck. Sold you out! How does it feel to be a slave?

GREED. That is the truth, until we get corporate money out of Washington nothing will change. In fact you may think so and so is winning the primaries....the truth is money is winning the primaries. According to CBS.news 3rd quarter spending is in direct alignment with who is first, second, third in popularity. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/10/11/politics/main3358116.shtml

Clinton has spent 27,859,861.
Obama has spent 21,343,292.
Edwards has spent 7,157,233.

Clinton has spent the most on both the Republican side and Democrats.

In my opinion....thats alot of favors! Those favors are not for you and me, the are for the corporate world and themselves.

I believe only one candidate is trying to reform this...that is who I am voting for.

15. For the same reason that there was a drug war.
It wasn't needed. It was wrong. It did more damage than good. It wasn't eliminated. Zero common sense.

The answer to why that happened is the answer to the other questions. Congress is there to DO STUFF. Sometimes they'd be better doing nothing.

And the other half of the equation is the level of intelligence of the voters. Let me tell you something I heard today. My father and mother went to visit my mom's 90 year old sister. My mom comes from a family of eleven. All conservatives. All with the perfect deer in headlight gaze. All very quiet people. My father, like me, is energetic, intelligent (if I may say so myself :) ), and open minded. He decided to speak up and ask the people about what they thought of all of the scandals. Silence. It was all the doing of the Republican administration. Silence. Then he asked if they'd ever vote Democratic. The sister burst out, "Never!". As though Democrats were some inherent evil. The devil incarnate. And why, I wonder. Obviously these people are pinheads. I mean it. They're idiots. After all, how does one have the mental capacity to be pro life AND pro war?

There are a lot of Americans who really have absolutely no idea what the truth is. The truth is, a lot of people suffered and lost a lot to the drug war. The truth is, a million Iraqis are dead from George's invasion. DEAD HUMAN BEINGS.

I'm sorry. There is no good answer except somehow getting a decent president into office. And the same for Congress. Good luck. Because that seems to be what it takes. Especially with a contrived election system, almost no media, a false media that lies, and a big group of citizens who can't think straight.

20. Yes
My sister is married into a Catholic family. I must tell you, my whole family was raised Catholic with my brothers and I being altar boys. The nparish priest came to our house every Sunday. We were Catholics. That should tell you on which side of the aisle we stood.

My point is that most Americans have no idea as to what the truth should be. They were raised as I was, to let yourself be dominated by a social figure. No matterr what that figure said, that was the truth. A lot of people are that way today. They have not figured out that they can think for themselves and that they do not have to obey an edict from a "superior".

27. Woah, that really sums it up. Perfect.
It's that unwillingness, or inability, to look. And to think.

And that even fits in to the picture that Gore has mentioned. This corporate society of advertising. "Better living through chemistry". Just say no. Just do it. Reefer Madness. People need a leader. And that should scare the living daylights out of everyone. This is why liberals like me have dropped out of the system for decades, until now. We don't believe the hype. I drove a 55 Chevy pickup until 1995, when I had to get four wheel drive or I couldn't get out of my driveway in the winter. And I still have that truck.

Trickle down thinking?

It's like my aunt on my father's side. 80 years old. And he bombards her with the evidence. But she's unwilling to see it. Unwilling to hear it. This is the problem. It's why people aren't waking up and sacrificing in order to stop overpopulation, global warming, fascism.

24. Your premise is wrong. The Democrats showed the highest Democratic unity score in 51 years.
"President Bush's success rating in the Democratic-controlled House has fallen this year to a half-century low, and he prevailed on only 14 percent of the 76 roll call votes on which he took a clear position.

"So far this year, Democrats have backed the majority position of their caucus 91 percent of the time on average on such votes. That marks the highest Democratic unity score in 51 years."

Don't let the media rhetoric fool you. The Democrats have acquitted themselves quite well--especially given their bare majority in both houses, and a relentlessly obstructionist Republican minority.
