I want a candidate who has made some big mistakes in their lfie |
|
Edited on Sat Dec-15-07 11:52 AM by drexel dave
Reflecting on this Obama drug thing: Why in the hell would we as a country want to elect ANYONE who hasn't made some big mistakes in their life?
Although it was tough, the mistakes I've made in life have also been the most educational to me as a person. My mistakes have made me who I am. And I know a whole lot more people who think the same.
Anybody else with me who thinks its ridiculous too? I don't want to know what mistakes people made, as much as what they learned from them.

Seriously, though...I agree with your OP. Lessons aren't all learned in the abstract, but are indicated by the "scars" we carry---in the positive sense. As my choreographer boss says, "I don't care if ya fall...I'm interested in how you recover from it."

I'd just have to laugh and say, "no thanks, I earned these scars and wrinkles fair and square."

4. I strongly agree. My problem w/Obama is his lack of applicable experience. |
|
I mean, we can play up different things he's done in his life, but there's just no getting around it. He'd be stepping into perhaps the world's most difficult job with next to no experiential preparation, especially in matters of foreign policy where we have monumental problems. This could very well derail his candidacy in a general election and then we'd be stuck with another Republican president. I don't want to take that chance when we don't have to. And it's not like it's now or never for Barack. I think he'll be president one day when he's ready, but he's got more dues to pay, and the fact that he'd run for president after representing Illinois in the Senate for just 2 years tells me that his judgment on matters involving our nation's future needs honing.

8. It's not the world's most difficult job |
|
it is after all, just making decisions. It's not like there's any hard labor involved. Perhaps mentally difficult, but even that is a big stretch. If that were the case, we should be electing people from MIT.
My garbageman has a much more difficult job.

7. I don't even consider this a "big" mistake. |
|
It's going to get harder and harder to find ANYONE without some drug use in their past as later boomers and gen x'ers become the candidates. Unless the person was living in a cave or is great at covering their tracks...and who wants a person like that for Prez?
As long as their not an addict or current abuser of drugs/alcohol (like the Chimp prolly is)...so what?

11. you want a candidate like George Bush? |
|
Actually, I'd prefer a candidate who's never made a mistake, and is always right. I've had enough of foolish stumblebums with the "common man's" touch. Give me a leader who's better than the rest of us. But that's just me.

19. Problem with Chimpy is that he doesn't know he made mistakes. |
|
Well, he has a lot of problems, but this is the one which is relevant to the discussion in this thread.
Every job that Chimpy has had, and failed at (which would be all of them) has been given to him by either Poppy himself, Bush Crime Family political appointees (such as the Supreme Court Felonious Five), or good ol' family friends like Salem Bin Laden, Osama's big brother, who financed Arbusto Energy, the Chimp's first official failed business.
Chimpy's "college education" was a legacy enrollment bought and paid for by Skull & Bones Poppy.
He has been systematically shielded from accountability his entire life. The moron admits he doesn't read a newspaper, watches FAUX for his TV News, and anything else is filtered through his handlers. And 99% of the time that he appears in public, it's before a pre-screened crowd of supporters with any dissent fenced off at least a mile away.
Chimp doesn't even KNOW that he sucks, because nobody is allowed to tell him so.
So how well is America doing as a result?
I'll take my chances with the guy who got high as a kid. Or better yet, the one who knows how it feels to sleep in a car.

an android.
But Bush is one of those who doesn't seemed to have learned from his mistakes. Therein' lies the big difference.
Of course, the wealthy in America seldom do have to deal with the consequences of their mistakes.

13. Georgie W. Bush made more than his share of big mistakes |
|
The difference between the Georgie's and the Obama's is the Obama's have integrity and honesty in their gene pool.
The Hucksters and Mittens who are trying to use the "what is he (Obama) telling our children," crap, are counting on the mentality of those , fundamentalists who are not even willing to lay claim to their own homosexual children nor acknowledge that they or their children have experimented with drugs.
As a senior well into the golden years, I spent 12-years talking to teenagers and college students on mistakes I made in my youth. Children be they of elementary age through college, know when someone is handing them a line of crap and hopefully, through this administration they have learned what a bunch of lying bs'ers control the Republican Party and Administration.

How perfectly ironic that is that I mis-spelled that. Of course, I did that on purpose ;-)

22. A person's reactions to the mistakes they have made tells a lot about their character |
|
Take Lincoln, for example. He went in partners with a man who was an alcoholic, and their store went bust. The partner died of alcoholism soon after, leaving Lincoln holding the bag, as it were. It literally took him years to pay off the debt, but pay it off he did. There are other Lincoln stories about him walking a mile to give proper change to a customer (I think it amounted to a penny), and another about him keeping postal money he had collected while postmaster of New Salem until it was called for years later by the government (that wasn't his mistake, but that he chose not to capitalize on a government mistake speaks volumes about his character, I think.)
