1. Secretary Of 50-State Strategy
Other than losing the 2006 elections*, he's done a phenomenal job - let him keep doing it.

*According to the DLC

2. He needs to continue to reinvent the DNC!
Of course, he won't have the chance if Hillary wins. She and Bill will shove him out for a DLC'er like Harold Ford like they wanted to do in '06.

4. Talk to me after he's had another 4 years of straightening the DNC out....maybe then
we can afford to let him move on. Maybe.

Then I think he'd make an excellent addition to the supreme court.

6. Certainly he has the wisdom but...
highly unlikely he would be appointed a Supreme Court justice without being a lawyer. That's not a constitutional requirement but I can't think of one who has not had legal training. I'm sure he would move on to some kind of exceptional public service. (We heard him speak a couple of weeks ago--he was great!)

14. You're right of course-it will never happen....But my con law professor MANY years ago
mentioned the possibility of a non-lawyer justice and its intrigued me ever ever since. Dean would be am excellent justice with a unique approach.

19. he is a lawyer
He may not still be the member of any bar association (I'm just not sure), but he has a law degree - decided to go study medicine afterward.

7. What's wrong with the job he has now?
And surgeon-general is a bullshit job, far beneath him.

8. Judging from the answers on this thread
people don't understand that not one of the candidates will keep him on if he/she is elected. He'll be kicked to the curb so fast your head will spin.

10. I don't see that as being necessarily the case
Granted, Hillary would get rid of him, and probably put McUseless back in. But why would anybody else attempt to "fix" what isn't broke?

11. Cali...it depends on many factors.
First off, he made it clear when the DNC members at the meeting asked him to stay by chanting 4 more years. He said he would not.

But the state DNC members have been empowered now, and they are the ones who vote.

I doubt he will fight to stay.

Traditionally it has been the nominee who totally rules the party. Technically now things may be different.

But it won't be him...he said so.

13. makes me sad, MF
I believe the reason he's said it won't be him, is that he knows he won't be wanted by the eventual nominee.

16. That speaks to what our party has become.
That does not speak to who Dean is. It does not speak to who we are who supported him and still would in a heartbeat.

It tells so much about how much happier our party is to be complacent and smug and happy it its cocoon of bipartisanship.

The party leaders made it clear many times that we are not that welcome in the party either.

Yes, it is sad. It is sad for what we are supposed to accept.

15. Why did I not remember that a new DNC chief is almost certain after the nominee
is chosen? Early onset Alzheimers. Thanks for the reminder.

he'd be the best at what he's doing right now.

12. I think he should stay put.
Just because he COULD be awesome in many positions doesn't necessarily mean he SHOULD be in any of them.

His work for the DNC is too important.
