Obama to ban Chinese toys
“I would stop the import of all toys from China. Now, I have to say that that's about 80 per cent of toys that are being imported right now,” the Illinois senator told voters in New Hampshire, which helps kick off the 2008 White House race.

“We have the power right now to set up our own inspection systems in China,” said Senator Obama, who is in a tight race with Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton.

“The Japanese do this on food; they basically say to China you cannot import food unless you meet our safety inspectors. They sent Japanese inspectors to China, set up the testing system, and oversee and make sure that every single bite of food that is sent into from China has been tested,” he said.

4. That's an irresponsible comment if I ever saw one....
You can't just ban a particular type of Chinese good without harsh reaction by the Chinese, who own about half our debt, and who export at least 50% of our goods to this country. Basically what Obama is saying is that he wants to go to war economically with China, which is about the last thing we want with the rise of the European Union and the Russian Federation gaining strength.

5. I don't know if I'd go that far...but your main point is right...the Chinese
have us by the cojones...7 years of an irresponsible economic policy and we no longer lead, but follow.

7. Clarification on my part
I do support reducing our trade debt with the chinese, certainly. What I wouldn't support or condone is threatening to outright ban select items from Chinese import. That's just not responsible economically. With the weakened state of the Dollar, our economic future depends on two factors.

#1: Increasing our exports to Europe

#2: Maintaining good economic ties to the far east.

8. I agree with that...even if we wanted to ban Chinese imports...
...we really couldn't economically...like I asid, bad economic policy for 7 years and we don't call the shots with the chinese anymore.
