Iowa newspaper endorses Obama: "We've seen the Clinton parade and want a break"
Edited on Fri Dec-21-07 05:57 PM by calteacherguy
12/21/07

<snip>

We acknowledge the equally talented players in the Democratic race, namely Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd, Delaware Senator Joe Biden and former North Carolina Senator and vice presidential hopeful John Edwards. Dodd and Biden each have three decades of service to their constituents.

<snip>

But we're looking for something different, something inspiring.

Obama has not forgotten that we must all work together to get things accomplished. Sure, Republicans and Democrats will forever bicker. But Obama gives us some sort of hope that the two parties can work as Americans - not divide as partisans.

We've seen the Clinton parade and want a break from the career politicians.

As we repair our image around the world and begin to focus on issues back home, Obama gives us the hope both can happen.

Edit: this paper also endorsed McCain on the Republican side today.

12. What's the deal with McCain and all the newspaper endorsements?

This is the third one he's shared with Obama isn't it?

14. I think it's because they are both seen as independent thinkers
willing to reach across the aisle for the common good.

I also think there is a very good chance McCain will be the Republican nominee. Independent votes will decide this election...just one more reason to vote for Obama. The independents support Obama overwhelmingly.

15. You know what CalTeach... if I could ask McCain one question, I'd ask him...

.....With all of the support you receive from Independents and Democrats -- and knowing that it would take voters to cross the isle to elect you..

Why do you continually use the phrase "Democrat Party"?

From the New Yorker Magazine-

New Yorker commentator Hendrik Hertzberg wrote: "There’s no great mystery about the motives behind this deliberate misnaming. 'Democrat Party' is a slur, or intended to be - a handy way to express contempt."<1>

McCain constantly blabs on about how he'd be able to reach across party lines -- yet he goes out of his way to use that term.

WHY? ----And why do progressive newspapers who endorse him not mention that he should drop the juvenile use of it?

13. I like the way the paper
said, "vice presidential hopeful, John Edwards"! Not, "failed vice presidential candidate John Edwards. This paper does accentuate the positive.
