Obama: "I talk to Al Gore about every three weeks and we're going to make sure..."
Edited on Sat Dec-22-07 12:43 AM by ClarkUSA
Barack Obama, last night in Portsmouth, N.H., advised a guy wearing a Santa hat to go to his Web site to learn more about his plan to combat
global warming. And then he said this:

"I talk to Al Gore about every three weeks, and we're going to make sure that your home at the North Pole is still available to you," Obama said,
reports NBC/NJ's Erin McPike.

Endorsement tease, anyone?

It's nice to know that Al and Barack have regular friendly chats. :-)

1. Didn't Gore say he was speaking to most of the candidates?
So it's nothing special and certainly not a sign of an impending endorsement. Gore will probably wait til after Iowa is decided, when things will be clearer.

3. When did he say that?
Edited on Sat Dec-22-07 01:09 AM by ClarkUSA
I agree it's pure speculation on Hotline On Call's part, though. But it makes me feel good to know Gore and Obama are obviously down with
global warming. I'd be interested to know how many of the other candidates talk to Al on a consistent basis.

5. In this interview
http://www.02138mag.com/magazine/article/1485-2.html

Talking to any?

Several of them have called from time to time.

Which ones?

I’m not going to violate the privacy of those conversations, but several of them have called regularly. Some have made private visits to Nashville, and I appreciate that

Earlier on in the interview:
Will you endorse a candidate in the primary?

Odds are that I will.

Who?

I haven’t made that decision yet.

Do you feel some obligation to endorse the wife of your
former boss?

Uh … no. I have friendships with her and with the other candidates,
and they’re all on equal footing at this point as far as I’m concerned.

Edited on Sat Dec-22-07 01:20 AM by annie1
he'll have to endorse soon, won't he? plus, would he endorse edwards knowing that if edwards loses he's not going to be on the best side of the hil or obama if they win the presidency, which wouldn't be very smart. weird.

13. He's gone back and forth on whether he'll endorse or not
I personally doubt that he will endorse. Not only is time running out, there's not really any percentage in it for him. Whoever he doesn't endorse is sort of obligated to say negative things about who he endorsed and why - - and maybe even attack his ideas on how to solve the climate crisis as too expensive, unworkable, etc. If he stays "above the fray" and works with them all behind the scenes, the only folks who are likely to attack him are dinosaurs like Inhofe.

and now he's just sucking up to Gore to get Al Himself to pick up his well-worn strings. (Slutpuppet was too strong: "The Inconstant Protege" perhaps would be more accurately fair.)

8. I'm sure Gore will be happy to endorse the Co-Sponsor of a Coal Bill
Obama has big ideas of cashing in on the Coal Production in Ill.

The US subsidies and tax incentives that have been funneled to the Coal industry over the last 100 yrs is staggering. Coal and Oil are deeply buried beneath the earth because they are TOXIC to everything living on the earth. How elemental is that?

24. Yes he has; follow my link to the treehugger.com story, "Obama Refines His Position on Coal"
Edited on Sat Dec-22-07 10:25 AM by ClarkUSA
Linking to an outdated 2005 press release is a really pathetic attempt at misrepresentation, by the way.

Here's the real story, if you're interested in the FACTS:

Tip O'Neill said "all politics is local" and perhaps it is if you are a senator, but it sure gets complicated when you are running for president. The
state of Illinois sits on 100 billion tons of coal, and its senator is Barack Obama; it really should be no surprise that in 2005 he attached a
provision to the energy bill for 85 million dollars to test using Illinois coal for transportation, or that he co-sponsored legislation earlier
this year for billions of dollars in subsidies for coal-to-liquid technology... Since introducing the bill in January Obama has been "refining"
his position, and now will support subsidies for CTL only if the fuel can be created with 20% lower CO2 than petroleum based fuels, a goal
that is not currently technically feasible. When push came to shove he voted against his own co-sponsored bill.

President of American Coal Company Robert Murray says "on the one hand he says he 's for CTL, but then he votes against it. I am going to
assume that he is not a friend of coal'.

Try to keep up!

27. You astound me at your ability to post disingenuous material...refuting nothing I've said..
Here is the full PDF Version of Obama's Coal Sponsored Bill worming it's way trough Congress! Obama has NOT withdrawn his support from Coal companies as you seem to be deluded or in denal of that fact.

The facts speak otherwise to your assertions.

http://www.coal.org/pdf/CoalFriendlyBills.pdf

BTW there is no such thing as a Coal friendly Bill...unless you consider the Federal Tax Breaks and Incentives doled out to Coal companies as friendly. I don't.

Your links are dated and irrelevant. The story I posted above thread from treehugger.com states he voted AGAINST his own co-sponsored bill after being
contacted by environmental groups.

Now go and post another story at HillaryIs44.

40. Another four words
Massive media deregulation expansion.

According to Jeff Chester in his book Digital Destiny deregulation of the media was part of the plan early on with Clinton, who stated "we will
support removal of judicial and legislative restrictions on all types of telecommunications companies: cable, telephone, utilities, television
and satellite. Market forces replace regulations and judicial models that are no longer appropriate." This was not just rhetoric for Clinton,
but a mandate that was embodied with the passing of the 1996 Tele-Communications Act. Media Scholar Bob McChesney calls the 1996
Tele-Com Act one of the most anti-democratic pieces of legislation passed in the 20th century. Here is a summary of what the 1996
Tele-Com Act changed: http://www.mediamouse.org/features/061407bill_.php

It would be nice if this were something ALL the candidates will at least see as important enough to consult and take advise from one of the most knowledgable persons in the nexus of global climate change+technology+politics.

We should be able to agree on that at least. :patriot:
