My Dad and I had our Christmas agrument...
I thought he was going to burst a blood vessel. The funny thing is, for the first time, there was one point we agreed on... Hillary Clinton.

He is an extreme right winger who blames everything on the Clenus. He blames OBL on the Clenus, and has no interest in why GWB lets him go free to this day. He also thinks corporations can do no wrong, as though they are some divine manifestation with which government should never interfere. Forget the fact that they would chain 6 year olds to assembly lines if it were legal....

But it appears he would vote for Hillary if she were nominated. He says she's more of a Republican than a Democrat. He would probably feel obligated to vote for her since she's an ex-Walmart board member and he has a LOT of stock in that company. As for me, I think corporations want to do good, they just need regulations to keep them in line.

But another factor is, I predict Romney will win on the Republican side, and we are from Missouri, and Romney's religion says Jesus will come back and rule from Jerusalem and Missouri... so these are interesting time for my family.

No point to be made here except that these are interesting times for us if this turns out to be a Romney vs Clinton election.

4. Tell your dad to take a long, hard look at that Wal Mart stock
the dividends have been poor and getting worse and the per share price is really going nowhere as the company overextends itself. He'd do better if he diversified himself out of that position and into a few industrial stocks that both pay decent dividends and are moving upwards plus tax free municipal bonds instead of staying stagnant due to dumb management decisions and a family that is most interested in using that company as a cash cow without improving sales or service. Sentiment should go only so far when money is at stake.

However, there's not a damned thing you can do about his politics except to agree to agree and hope he never looks up Clinton's voting record, one that is slightly to the left of Kucinich's. My dad shocked the hell out of me by announcing he was voting for Kerry in 2004. We hadn't talked politics for years, thanks to my habit of walking away and coming back half an hour later and asking him if he was done.

Changing our parents just isn't our job. Our job is to find a way to prevent our buttons being pushed, a tall order since our parents installed them.

5. In all seriousness...
...what kind of job (or work) did your dad do to make him love corporations so blindly?

My dad was in a union; we tolerated corporations.

6. Romney's imploding. NH is no longer a sure thing for him.
I still think he might pull it out, but anything less than a blowout is a failure for him....

8. I agree with your dad - HRC is more Republican than Democrat.
Her "left-of-Kucinich voting record" includes TWO votes for the Patriot Act and a vote to authorize the invasion of Iraq.

HRC was a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee when Dick Durbin says all members were aware that intelligence around Iraq was being fixed. She and Edwards both voted for war for reasons that they knew to be false.

9. My Republican stepfather doesn't explain why he'll vote for Hillary
Actually I've only heard him say it once, but he didn't mention anything about her being Republican-lite. Anyway he likes her, and I was completely shocked to hear he wants to vote for Hillary. Well now that I think about it, he's not the type that listens to Rush, so he's probably a moderate Republican, even if he wouldn't describe himself as that.

10. Got one for ya.
My father ingenuously stated that "Rudy" got "grilled by the papers unfairly" the last few weeks. That it wasn't a big deal about his taking body uards for Judy to the Hamptons and to Pennsylvania, because he was the mayor, of course the City had to pay for the security.
