Giuliani ad links World War II, 9/11

By Brian C. Mooney, Globe Staff

Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign will begin airing a new television ad Friday in which he equates the resolve and heroism of Americans during World War II with what he witnessed as mayor of New York City after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and in which he asserts that the US will prevail in a war with Islamic terrorists.

Called "Freedom," the 60-second spot mixes video of Giuliani speaking and then speaking over images of American soldiers and homefront workers during the war and then firefighters at Ground Zero in New York. One is the famous photo of Marines planting the US flag on Iwo Jima and another of the flag raised over the rubble of the World Trade Center. In stump speeches, he has directly linked those two events.

"I saw the picture of the firefighters putting the flag up at Ground Zero," Giuliani says in the ad. "I said these are the children or grandchildren or great-grandchildren of the greatest generation. They have the same resolve. The same understanding.

"When you challenge Americans, there’s no country that stands up stronger and better than the United States of America. When you try and take something away from us like freedom, my goodness, Americans are going to be one in resisting you.

1. One big difference rudy
After Japan attacked Pearl Harbor President Roosevelt did not attack Norway; he declared war against the enemy.

I would think 9-11 is becoming less and less of a masturbatory fantasy for the chickenhawk base of the gop.

4. Dear Mr. G....
We would never advocate violence on this board but I wonder how you sleep at night knowing that somewhere nearby there may be an actual hero-say a firefighter who knew many of the 300+ killed that day...and say he is dying of lung cancer caused by toxic dust you failed to protect him from....he is drinking and popping pain pills and looking for just one little thing he could do to even the score between those who layed it on the line and those who lie with every line....???? Just askin'....
