Edwards' International Call Is Returned
DECORAH, IOWA -- When John Edwards told reporters earlier today that he tried to reach Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, there was some skepticism among the press corps as to whether the call would be returned.

Well, news flash: Edwards just told a town hall in Decorah, Iowa that Musharraf did call back.

Edwards says he "urged him to continue the democratization" process in Pakistan and also urged him to allow international investigators inside Pakistan to investigate the cause.

Edwards has spent a sizable chunk of time since 2004 traveling the world, meeting foreign leaders, and trying to build some semblance of a foreign policy resume.

1. was it Musharraf himself or one of his lackeys
and don't you think they'd have more important things to do right now than return the phone call of a private American Citizen and ex-Senator who's polling third nationally in the race to be President?

9. Thanks Kerry2008
I agree, one of our candidates, likely a Dem will be our president and needs to be kept informed of the situation because of our vast interests over there.

6. If Edwards said it was Musharraf, then it was Musharraf

Or are you calling Edwards a liar with absolutely nothing to back yourself up? I'm sure that's not what you meant to do, cuz that'd be pretty pathetic.

he picked up the phone and tried to start a dialog with one of today's newsmakers.

I wonder if * interrupted his vacay long enough to try to call Musharaff (sp).

Maybe * thinks only Terry Schiavo is worth shortening/interrupting his vacation!!!!!

11. Interesting.
Taking initiative and talking to people involved in the situation instead of taking part in worthless political sniping.

This guy Edwards might have a future.

12. K&R
So Edwards was not saying what he would do as President, he was actually doing the Presidential work.

17. Who can handle all the fun we've been having?
plus the fact Bhutto AND Musharriff called Joe Biden in early December.

Funny how Bhutto was killed all the same.

Funnier still how inflammatory remarks in such grievous situations DO NOT increase support for the flamer's candidate. Quite the opposite, actually. My rule of thumb? Simple:

The more attacks I see coming from a candidate's campaign and/or supporters -- the less likely that candidate will have my vote in February and November.

At this rate... it looks like I will be voting for no one.

Woo hoo. Are we having fun yet?

:eyes:

19. What a revolutionary idea from Mr. Edwards!
Continue democratization??

I bet he is the first one to come up with such an idea!

I'm glad he got on the horn right away and shared his unique viewpoint, I bet Musharraf has never been told such a thing in his life!
