2007 Pinoccio awards: Hillary lie wins second place
Edited on Tue Jan-01-08 02:57 PM by antiimperialist
This is interesting.
The Washington Post "fact-checker", which specializes on investigating dubious claims by presidential candidates, has published a list of lies by several figures and this is the order of the awards for 2007:

1) I saw my father march with Martin Luther King"
--Mitt Romney, "Faith in America" address, December 6, 2007.

2) "Hillary will begin immediate phased withdrawal with a definite timetable to bring our troops home."

--Hillary Clinton, New Hampshire campaign leaflet, September

3) "My chances of surviving prostate cancer and thank God I was cured of it, in the United States, 82 percent. My chances of surviving prostate cancer in England, only 44 percent under socialized medicine."
--Rudy Giuliani, New Hampshire radio advertisement, October 29, 2007

4) I don't want to wake up four years from now and discover that we still have more young black men in prison than in college."
--Barack Obama, fund-raiser in Harlem, NY, Nov. 29, 2007.

5) I would probably have to say yes, that the Constitution established the United States of America as a Christian nation."
--John McCain interview with Beliefnet.com, September 2007.

The fact-checker also awarded a Gepetto Truth-telling award

Geppetto "truth-telling" award goes to Barack Obama for "telling it like it was", unlike Bill's denial to have inhaled in his youthful years:

1) "The point was to inhale. That was the point."
--Barack Obama, December 13, 2007, after the Clinton campaign raised questions about his drug use as a young man.

1. #4 - racism denial, unreal
The argument is based on the word "young". There ARE more black men in prison than there are black students. Since Obama said the word "young", this is the fourth worst lie???

I'd say this no matter who made that statement. It just shows the lengths people will go to in order to deny racial disparity.

2. I know
it's as if they're suggesting Obama wants more black men in prison.

3. Agree. It was inaccurate, but not nearly one of the biggest lie
He added the adjective "young" which made it inaccurate, but this it's not a big lie.

9. it`s not a lie
the figures of black men of all ages in and out of prison,in jail or pending trial are far more than those who have or are in a college.

12. He said young, not of all ages
Now we would have to agree on what "young" means.

4. As regards (3), concerning prostate cancer survival...
the 5-year survival rate for prostate cancer in the UK was 71% for men diagnosed in 2000-2001.

I have no idea what the rate is in the USA, but if Giuliani thinks it's only 44% here, he must be looking at some VERY out-of-date statistics.
