Campuses are ghost towns:"I haven't seen a lot of people come back for any of the campaigns"

DES MOINES—The frigid campus of Drake University, one of the larger schools in Iowa, was something of a ghost town Tuesday.

The dorms and library were closed, and most students were still on holiday break. Classes will not resume until Jan. 22, well after Thursday's Iowa presidential caucuses.

At the University of Iowa, in Iowa City, it has been equally quiet this week. "I haven't seen a lot of people come back for any of the campaigns," said Mark Bowers, a student organizer for former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards.

1. Well the caucus is on Thursday and college students are probably hung over. . .
. . .but if you want to push the narrative is going down because the college students are not on campus go right ahead.

2. Many of them are down here in the 70 plus degree weather. Honestly,
was at Publix yesterday and the kids were stocking up on goodies for NYEve at the deli counter. Nice young people these days, well mannered and pleasant.

5. Of course, the in-state students
can caucus in their hometown, assuming that is where they are registered, and of course many aren't.

Big turnout on campuses don't help much anyway, since the caucus already gives precincts delegates based on population, not turnout.

That is another factor that complicates polls. It is entirely feasible that the candidate that wins the caucus Thursday night actually didn't have the most caucus goers in attendance.

6. Most college students don't vote
and they certainly not going to take time out to go caucus.

7. I don't agree with you.
How do you know that?

I do think many college students vote. I base that on my children and their friends.

And my daughter was a caucus leader when she was at Iowa State.

I think it is insulting to insist that college students are not involved.
