COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Former South Carolina Governor Jim Hodges has endorsed Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama.

Hodges made the announcement today during a news conference at the University of South Carolina.

His endorsement of the Illinois senator comes less than a month before the Democratic primary January 26.

Former Democratic Governor Richard Riley endorsed Hillary Rodham Clinton in June. The state's only other living Democratic governor, former U.S. Senator Ernest "Fritz" Hollings, is not expected to endorse a candidate.
