The Huckster's Chairman- " I Want To Knock Out Romney's Teeth"
DES MOINES -- "The negatives feel good," says Ed Rollins, the onetime wunderkind of the Reagan White House and now, at 64, the national campaign chairman for upstart Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee. "It's like being a boxer when you're young. To me, hitting somebody, knocking somebody down, is a great feeling. Firing out a negative ad just feels amazing."

But this time, the blow did not land exactly as intended. It is New Year's Eve and Rollins is sitting in a bar area in the Wakonda Club, slightly slouched in his chair, wearing a gray suit. Just hours earlier, Huckabee had stunned reporters expecting the launch of a hard-hitting TV ad attacking Mitt Romney; instead, he pulled the spot crafted by Rollins.

1. Rollins is going to be sorry he signed on to Huck, and not Bloomberg (if he runs). Huck
is poor material to work with, and if Bloomberg runs, Rollins has experience with the Indie thing (Perot).

3. You're assuming Huck goes the distance. What if McCain crushes him?
Then Ed's free....

That said, I think Bloomberg will hire "better" people. Money is NO object here....

11. I'm not sure who I'd rather see win--Hucky is an unserious joke, and I
think we're in for a landslide if the GOP is dumb enough to go with him. McCain, for all his faults, IS more of Presidential material than Hucky, but would be harder to beat, although I think he would end up a Bob Dole fiasco. I don't want to risk Huckabee getting anywhere near the WH--he's a special brand of crazy and stupid.

16. I think McCain is gonna take the GOP nom, unless he fucks up.
After all, he doesn't have religious baggage (Romney--liar, liar, My Daddy Marched With King, I Cried When They Let Blacks in My Church, and never mind the magic underwear; Huck--the Flintstone version of the Bible was Fer-REAL!) and of the whole bunch, he's the most "acceptable" to the mushy middle.

And the Mushy Middle decides these things.

2. The word Wakonda in some of the old languages of this land
Edited on Wed Jan-02-08 03:09 PM by SpiralHawk
has sacred meaning, and ought not to be used profanely as the name of a bar.

You might say such disrespect harshes Wakonda's chill.

Not so surprisingly, heap bad ju ju ensues for the Rollins entity & client Huckabee.

Whooooooaa Wakkkkoooooondaaaaaaaa! Hey ya !

5. Rollins - what an asshole.
You MUST read the article for all it illuminates about the repuke mindset.

First of all, Rollins is a supreme asshole of a person and it shows.

Then he talks about taking a shot at Romney's groin and how Huckabee turns him on.

This is truly the party of some sick freaks.

And BTW, I think this charade is some seriously stage-managed bullshit.

13. "Guy Talk"? Sounds like a lot of tough-talking violent fantasy to compensate for a tiny dick to me.
But what do I know, I'm not a guy.

And none of the real men around me have to resort to violence fetishes to express their masculinity, so I guess I'm outta the loop on male inadequacy.

22. We could whittle away an entire day with phrases like this....
"To me, hitting somebody, knocking somebody down, is a great feeling. Firing out a negative ad just feels amazing."

Lots of sexual imagery there, too bad it's all wrapped up in violence, but enough said, really.
Republicans seem to have more than their share of sexual psychosis.

Anyway, I think 'ole Ed is catapulting the propaganda on this one and it's so transparent as to be laughable.

25. A Few Points
1) I deplore sexist imagery... That seemed more of the violent kind...

2) My uncle was a professional boxer who lost his eye in the ring...He wore a glass one...My dad was an amateur boxer... I have boxed myself...

3) I think saying you are going to beat up your political opponents is peurile but I can at some level understand the motivation

4) I think the good cop/bad cop routine is feigned but I can see the antagomism toward Romney...He is an empty suit...

negative, burnishing his nice-guy Christian image, but it's a cynical ploy, and transparent. When reporters laugh AT you, you know you screwed the pooch.

14. Right. If Huck was against negativing campaigning, then the ad never should have
gotten the ok to get off the drawing board.

20. Exactly--it was a carefully crafted way to go negative, without admitting to it--
and it made him look like a hypocritical clown. This whole idea that Rollins wants to go negative while Hucky is trying to stay positive, because that's what's "in his heart", is a ploy designed to make Hucky look good. If there was REALLY a conflict between Rollins and Huck, they wouldn't talk about it, because it would look like the campaign was in disarray. And as you said, he wouldn't have made the ad, and even if he did and changed his mind, he wouldn't have called a press conference to run it by the media. Ridiculous.

17. He's the guy who'll do it...
http://www.smirkingchimp.com/node/11854

"I was the guy who gave the ten million from Marcos to your campaign," the Filipino told Rollins in 1991, according to the memoir. "I was the guy who made the arrangements and delivered the cash personally. ...It was a personal gift from Marcos to Reagan."

The stunning anecdote did attract some press coverage in 1996 but the story died because the Clinton administration made no effort to follow it up. No government investigator demanded that Rollins reveal the identities of the Filipino politician and the Republican lobbyist who handled the pay-off.

(Rollins is now chairman of Republican Mike Huckabee’s presidential campaign.)
