How fabulous that Iowa elected a WOMAN...oh, wait
yeah, just remembered, Iowa doesn't do women for elected officials other than school boards. Yet
they're soooo representative of the United States.

1. Welcome to DU.
My sister was telling me tonight that America isn't ready for a woman president.

2. Iowa hasn't "elected" anyone in this contest. They've simply indicated
their preference.

Let's permit the rest of the states to weigh in before we pack it in, shall we?

3. Why would being a 'woman' matter? It's politics and who can lead this

country and Hils is a rank opportunist. It shows.

I don't think it's her sex as much as her corporate pandering and the fact that you can't trust her.

9. Boomerang question: why would being a 'black man' matter?
Are Iowans trying to say that they're less racist by electing Obama?

10. Neither should matter. And you didn't answer my question.
It's merit that counts. Not 'woman' or 'black'.

4. Our Lt. Governor is a woman
Her name is Patty Judge. Maybe you should check your facts first.

8. Lt. Governor's don't count. Its not like there is a Lt. U.S. rep. or
Lt. U.S. Senator. The FACT is that Iowa is one of two states never to have a
U.S. Rep., or U.S. Senate. Ergo to wit, expecting election of a woman to U.S.
President from this state would be LUDICROUS.

14. Iowa has never elected an african american US Senator or US representative either...
so expecting ENDORSEMENT (we did NOT have an ELECTION) of an african-american to US president from this state would be LUDICROUS.

16. You are stretching credulity here. Iowa is 94% white. The
probability of a black man seeking office is closer to 99% against having
a black representative. Not so for women however.

Again, Iowa has never elected a woman to the U.S. Congress. What
with 'all that democracy going on', therefore, ergo to wit, Iowans
are disinclined to vote for woman to represent them outside of the
confines of Iowa. It might just be a quirk, an anomaly - but fact
is fact.

7. If you'd gotten as many pushy, arrogant robocalls from Hillary as I got,
you wouldn't be so fond of her either.

Her "I'm here to claim what's mine" attitude did not go well in Iowa.

And we didn't "elect" anybody. We chose delegates who will elect delegates who will elect delegates. I wish all other states would adopt the caucus system Iowa uses and I wish all states would caucus at the same time.

11. ".....and I wish all states would caucus at the same time."
Watch what you wish for.

First of all, your caucuses deny participation to far too many people. No absentee ballots for those unable to attend. Reducing the participants in an election has been the goal of those who want to control the outcomes of elections.

Secondly. No privacy. This country's elections were founded on secret ballots.

Thirdly. How long do you think it would take to count some 100 million hands raised on "national caucus night"?

Lastly, February 5 is coming and some 20 states will "caucus" that day. No hands raised in public gatherings. Just people, in the privacy of the voting booth, making their choice. Sorry, I like that way better. It has always worked for me.

12. If Clinton had won, would you now be complaining
that Iowa did not elect a black man, and that Iowa "doesn't do black men for elected officials?"

15. OKay, school board was harsh but UNITED STATES REP not
State Rep. I heard from it from a political talk show that Iowa and 'one'
state has NEVER elected a woman to U.S. Congress.

But for all your hard work - Iowans will get half a mea culpa from me. Congrats.
