2. Here's the story:
Markets 'strong' despite slowing economy - Bush
President is upbeat about the economy after meeting with financial advisors.
January 4 2008: 2:08 PM EST

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush said Friday that while there is some concern about slowing economic growth, the "financial markets are strong and solid."

Bush spoke after meeting with his top economic advisers about possibly drafting a package to stimulate the U.S. economy as it weathers the housing slump, rising oil prices and an uptick in unemployment.

"This economy is on a solid foundation," Bush said. But he also said it can't be taken for granted and there are some signs of concern that require the administration and Congress to be diligent in ensuring economic strength.

Sitting around a table with his economic advisers in the Roosevelt Room, the president said the worst thing lawmakers could do is raise taxes.

12. I bet he raises taxes, just like Dad.
He'll call it an "economic stimulus surcharge" or something to avoid saying the word tax.

4. Sure, for movie stars, corporate CEOs and hedge fund managers.
As for the rest of us, we can read about them all in the newspapers & figure we missed the gravy train by just this much.

5. To be fair, he can't exactly say that financial markets AREN'T strong.
If the President of the United States of America actually said that financial markets were unstable, there would be chaos.

People world round would run the banks, would liquidate their stock holdings, pensions would fail, etc.

Now, if he were truly a responsible guy, he'd have some lower level guy extolling the virtues of a savings account, emergency saving, etc. Nothing speculative or wild, just the normal stuff. He can't talk about those things due to his position.

Dubai/Decks are now clear for Dubai's state-owned stock exchange Borse Dubai Ltd (BDL) to acquire a stake in US equities exchange Nasdaq. In a related move, Nasdaq and BDL will take over the OMX group, which operates stock exchanges in Nordic and Baltic nations, thus linking markets in the US, Europe and the Gulf.
---------------------------------------
The board of Nordic and Baltic stock exchanges operator, the Stockholm-based OMX group, Wednesday recommended 'unanimously' a takeover bid from BDL and Nasdaq, the DPA news agency reported.
----------------------------------------
BDL will get Nasdaq's stake in the London Stock Exchange Group and a 19.9 percent stake in the US exchange, although its voting stake will be limited to five percent, WAM news agency reported Wednesday.

The move will also allow Nasdaq to proceed with its plan to merge with OMX group. After that deal closes, Nasdaq will be known as Nasdaq OMX Group Inc.

7. He is so full of sh**!!!!
I know things are really bad here in Michigan compared to the rest of the country, but I am sure we are not the only state feeling the squeeze. There are empty houses everywhere that have been foreclosed. The values of our homes have declined dramatically. There are no good jobs left. If you lose a good job you have to replace it with 2 or 3 crappy paying service jobs without insurance. If the economy is going to tumble into recession, I hope it does it while Bush is still in office. They have been trying to stave off the truth so that when a Dem gets into office in 2008, they can blame the whole mess on our party.

9. Oh - good to know. So my imminent layoff and plummeting 401K
are just an aberration? Figment of my imagination?

That we are sitting here, more than 7 years into this asshole's failed administration and he has yet to be impeached for his multitude of crimes is - laughable? pathetic? I struggle to find the right adjective.
