Clinton out of it, Edwards suggests
Clinton out of it, Edwards suggests

Speaking at an early-morning campaign rally in Manchester, New Hampshire, Edwards pointed to entrance polls indicating Iowa voters overwhelmingly listed "change" as the most important attribute they are looking for in a candidate. That means, he added, there are now only "two choices."

"What is clear is that are not interested in status quo," Edwards said. "They're interested in change. They want to see a candidate of change, and so they now have two choices in making that decision, and this choice is somebody who will fight for the change that makes America what it's capable of being.

<...>

Most current New Hampshire polls were taken before the Iowa caucuses, and show Edwards a distant third behind Clinton and Obama in the state. It remains unclear what effect his second-place showing on Thursday might have among Granite State primary voters.

Meanwhile, Clinton downplayed Friday her third-place showing in Iowa, saying the Hawkeye State was always a difficult one for her to win. She also dismissed Iowa's ultimate effect on determining the party's eventual nominee.

2. And how could she portray herself as the "underdog" in Iowa?
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 06:58 PM by alteredstate
Wasn't she leading by 20 points for a long time?

25. Please what a load of crap
The media spins and distorts and she is blamed. When every other candidate suggests that They are going to win you guys act as if it is "no big deal," "simply politics," "what is he supposed to say?"

But when Clinton does not...what contest the media distortion? Take out an ad: "the media says I am inevitable, and I am not saying that"...she is vilified.

Backwards and in highheels. You demand more of her than any other candidate. And you vilify her either way.

This "inevitable" argument is the biggest load of crap I have seen on DU.

Don't go there your damn self.

26. She thought she was too important to answer questions
and that she didn't have to, because after all, she has this thing sewn up.

How'd that work out for "your girl"?

28. No. You are reading things into it that are not there.
When someone is ahead in the polls, they want to keep their lead. It is very common to try not to "fix something that ain't broken" especially when the press has a history of attacking her. It is typical political strategy. To read in "inevitability" because she was playing it safe to get elected, is again making her live up to a higher standard.

Do not be fooled. Every one of the candidates are doing what they think is best for them politically.

5. This calls for an old adage
When you point a finger, three are pointing back at you.

I don't think Hillary Clinton is anywhere near done, though it's certainly going to be a much tougher fight for her now. (Which is a good thing, really, for any eventual nominee.)

But unless John Edwards can win New Hampshire, which looks extremely unlikely (I'd say impossible, but I wouldn't want to inflame anyone), he's a done ducky. And not just done in this race but done in politics. if Obama or Clinton loses the nomination, they still have roles as US Senators. If Edwards has to drop out, he's got ... really, nothing (politically speaking; he of course doesn't have to worry where his next meal is coming from). His political career will be finished. He will be, what, the new Gary Hart.

10. It's a very risky move.
If Obama beats Clinton in NH, it will be very hard for anyone to stop him...especially if he wins South Carolina.

15. Before South Carolina
Nevada votes. No polls in a month or so but at last count Hillary had a huge lead there. Hillary still has a giant firewall up for February 5th too.

It looks like with the size of the independent vote in New Hampshire Obama will win there. Also very likely to take South Carolina.

12. Hillary/Edwards or Edwards/Hillary are virtually tied by the final numbers...
from Iowa. That means that she and he control about 60% of the Iowa vote totals.

New ball game is for Edwards or Hillary to eliminate the other...or if Obama can eliminate one of the two.

Not surprising that Edwards has taken this as his lead comments. You can expect much the same from Hillary and Obama.

Its politics--remember?

14. It will be interesting to see if Edwards continues his poverty work
We'll find out is he's genuine or not.

I can't see any way Edwards could win it from here, unless one of the other two top candidates gets caught in a giant scandal or something.

18. Edwards is my favorite of the top three, but with all due respect, he must be very
tired from the campaigning, because he should shut the f#$% up about this and be a bit humble. He is teetering on the edge.
