Obama: No Cash From Denzel, Spike, Motown, Despite Oprah Backing
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,320532,00.html

seeing as how Faux is an accepted source these days..

"Oprah Winfrey’s backing of Barack Obama for president hasn’t influenced a lot of other heavy hitting black celebrities to join her yet.

Her two most favorite authors, Maya Angelou and Toni Morrison, have not opened their pocketbooks yet for Obama. (Angelou has traditionally been a Clinton supporter.)

Neither has Spike Lee nor Denzel Washington, although the latter’s wife Pauletta sent Obama $2,300. Motown founder Berry Gordy, Jr. has put his bucks in Hillary Clinton’s campaign, as has Quincy Jones.

Also missing from Obama’s list of donors in the current election cycle is BET Chairman and Founder billionaire Robert L. Johnson. The regular Democratic donor did give Hillary Clinton $4,600 in 2007. The last time he sent a check to Obama was in 2006, for $2,100.

Obama’s celeb donors include the recently controversial Will Smith, but not Chris Gardner, the multi millionaire whom Smith played in "The Pursuit of Happyness." Obama did receive donations from the newly married Eddie Murphy and the always funny Chris Rock.

But neither Sean "Diddy" Combs nor Shawn "Jay Z" Carter has pitched in for the Illinois senator as of yet. Jay Z’s fiancée Beyonce Knowles has also remained silent. Her father, Mathew, last sent Obama $1,000 for his senate campaign.

Winfrey, meanwhile, may like Obama but hasn’t put the weight of her fortune behind him yet"

4. This article is lame.
Basically, the premise is: List a bunch of famous black people who haven't given money to Obama. Why is this news?

Perhaps Fox should follow up with an article listing a bunch of women who haven't donated to Hillary Clinton.

Or an article listing a bunch of white guys who haven't donated to John Edwards.

Feh.

41. Double standard? What double standard?
This coming from someone who's hero is part of his own name... (Assuming of course, that your name is derived from JKF, RFK or Teddy, and not that you are just somebody with the last name Kennedy or work in aerospace or some such. If that is the case then, my apologies).

Seriously, though, why would you think that someone who thinks that this is simply a bunk article is somehow an Obama worshipper? and what double standard are you referring to?

10. Maya Angelou has thrown her support behind Clinton
so why would she give money to Obama. I don't know about Toni Morrison, but I suspect she likely supports Clinton too. Denzel went to one of the Oprah dinners she held for Obama...don't know if he's ever given money. The article says no, but articles have been wrong before.

5. What a bullshit article.
Why is it posted here?

Why is Will Smith controversial? Why are black people expected to support Obama automatically?

Could it be that some of them want to wait to see what happens before they support anyone financially? If that is a trait of black celebrities, then why do I do it? I have blond hair and blue eyes.

37. No. Will was very well spoken. The Media created a quote that didn't exist.
Will Smith's sin was to assume that journalists and editors are concerned about truth instead of controversy.

Will Smith's other sin has gotten people in trouble for saying outloud.

But Will Smith himself said nothing controversial or daring or unthinkable.

The news should have been about editors putting words into people's mouths. I knew this was going to follow Will, through no fault of his own. It just makes me more careful about the news, and those who put out the news.

39. Good question about :why are blacks expected to support Obama
automatically?

It's as good a question as the excretable '51% of Americans are women' number that keeps popping up when Hillary Clinton supporters are about to lay the sexism boom down.

Why were 51% of Americans -- women -- assumed to be in the bag for Hillary Clinton just because she shared genitals with them? It was doubly offensive to me because it assumed that all American women regardless of sexual orientation, race, political leaning, religious leaning or subcultural background would vote for a straight, white, liberal, Methodist attorney female just because she had a vagina too.

These people are crazy.

They need to check themselves about what's about to go down in South Carolina, as well. All of a sudden they've ceded Obama ALL black votes by dent of his also being black, completely ignoring .. well, EVERYTHING.

These people are a trip.

They're the same people pulling the 'Will Smith is an Anti-Semite' bullsh*t, though. They want perception to be a reality. It's easy to stereotype people, than to study why people are different, why people are individuals.

That goes for everyone in the liberal blogosphere who tries to treat Republicans as some sort of demonic racist monolith who group think and are of one mind in all things, as well.

40. By the way, where are the articles about Obama's celebrity WHITE endorsers?
Yeah, that's what I thought. Thank God Obama isn't campaigning on race. Why are newspapers trying to do it for him? Seriously.

These editors are talking out of both sides of their mouths, by saying that Obama represents the end of racism, while they themselves continue to support racial paradigms, racial divisions, racial expectations.

They are not treating Obama as a human being.
They are boxing Obama in.

It's deplorable. Change means sweeping their bullshit away, too, hopefully.

OPRAH/OBAMA | Star-studded spectacular event raises $3 million for campaign

"It's unbelievable," said Illinois state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias as the Great Gatsby party scene unfolded before him on Winfrey's meadow under a gorgeous sky. Real celebrities mingled with Obama's best donors and bundlers rewarded for their fund-raising efforts with a star-studded afternoon.

Among those present at the event featuring two of the most famous Chicagoans in the world: actors Lou Gossett Jr.; Cicely Tyson; Forest Whitaker; Ellen Pompeo; Sidney Poitier; Linda Evans; Tyler Perry; Chris Rock; Hill Harper (who attended Harvard Law with Obama); music producer Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds; Holly Robinson Peete and her husband, football quarterback Rodney Peete; Winfrey beau Stedman Graham; radio personality Tom Joyner; sports legends Ernie Banks, Bill Russell and Dave Winfield; tennis great Jimmy Connors, and model Cindy Crawford and husband Rande Gerber

We are at a historical point: this isn't the time to avoid or neglect
or shut down the discussion, IMO. We seem to need a format or some level of agreement. Wish I had all the answers needed.

32. Well, the article above said
he went to a dinner for Obama that Oprah threw..but I remember Meryl Streep and him talking on some show and it seemed like they didn't agree and I know Streep is all Dem.

OOOps! Found this..http://www.nationalblackrepublicans.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=pages.BlackGOP&x=424351

And this with the interview I was thinking about with Streep and Denzel..the problem is Denzel doesn't look too intelligent after this.
