There's No Crying In Primaries......... |
|
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 03:13 PM by global1
Interesting to note that the talk over the weekend was that Hillary should show her real self versus the candidate that is trying to keep up with the boys. Really we heard - she's a different Hillary when you talk with her one on one. She's a real person - not just a political robot.
And then suddenly - almost on cue we have this new Hillary tender moment where she is soft spoken, almost teary eyed and choking up.
Hmmmm... Do ya think? nah - she wouldn't.
Actors when they conjure up tears - think of something that hits them personally to emote.
Do you think that the fact that her campaign is in shambles; Bill has loose lips ("I can't make her any younger...."); she came in third in Iowa; looks like she's going to lose in double digits in NH; campaign money is starting to dry up and that her dream of becoming the first women president is slipping through her hands is what she conjured up to evoke this emotion?

Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 03:17 PM by flyarm
I am for Edwards..but i would not say that was acting..i would say ..disappointment and exhaustion!!
I was in Iowa ..and worked my ass off for Edwards..and to be honest..i got home last saturday night..and yesterday..i never got dressed..i sat on my sofa..in total exhaustion..and i sure as hell didn't keep the schedule these candidates have..
they are so tired..give her a break ok..this has been very tough..it would be tough on superman!!
and In both places it has been extremely cold..which takes even more energy from your body to stay warm..and they are outside constantly..
They are all damn tired.
and they have every reason to be.
These are all our candidates..and the schedules they are keeping def-y's humanity!
fly for Edwards.

4. Its always been up to her, as it is anyone, to be herself and let the voters choose, not conjure up |
|
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 03:35 PM by caligirl
an image more voter friendly. I have always liked Hilary but this isn't enough to get me to cast a vote for her if I have better choices. I think she needs to drop the ridiculous change and just speak from her convictions. Still for Edwards.
edit for conjur v conjure spelling.
Just watched her video. I think she is sincere here. but you can get really convoluted in your thinking at this point of 35 years of politics. I am sure she really does believe she has the package and judgement to recover the damages ***has left. The issue is Americans are signaling they don't want her skill set to deliver the recovery and rebuilding of a better America because its too conventional and too tied to business interests. After your family has been threatened by insurance companies and business runs all over the workers here with a take it or leave it approach to wages hours and security, it makes sense they would feel she can't give them the change in course they want. She needs to get a clue, she doesn't get it.
I don't mind the tears as much, even frrom the other GUYS, just so long as its not on camera. And i prefer the repugs were doing the crying so I can laugh my a** off at the hypocrisy.

7. there's LOTS of crying in primaries- and no shame in |
|
that reality.
I don't hold Hillary's human-ness against her. She is first and foremost a person just like you, and me. I'd much rather people be genuine and honest than play a role. I don't think she responded this way to get sympathy- I think she's doing her level best to achieve her goals. I can only imagine the toll this takes on a person.
What the hell has happened to people anyway? What kind of a society are we part of? Do we act like this instinctually or is someone/something playing on our worst impulses?
we need to do some major introspection.

8. Her sincerity is real i think, but she hasn't apologized for her war vote |
|
in this tissue session, she hasn't offered to turn back the health insurance industry or business interest money. Cry a river and keep the cash? No change here of substance but heart felt she was to a limited point.

issues you bring up that she has not reconciled to my satisfaction either. She's actually bottom of my list- in large part for the very reasons you cite. I was responding to the assertion that she was feigning weariness and disappointment to get sympathy rather than simply being ..real.... human- and ...?... subject to all the same feelings and weaknesses as we all face....
We don't have to be so extreme and negative do we? Our society has become so mean spirited and vicious under bush.
I hate that. We deserve better than this. We are capable of better than this.

11. Her choice of words is what was telling....through her tears..... |
|
This is personal for me (from Edwards) I care about taking this country forward (from Obama)
It was scripted.....
and it showed.
Had she used words of her own instead of invoking the words of her rivals, it might have worked better.

17. I really did not think it is fair to say she was acting. |
|
It was an emotional moment from an exhausted person. Actually, she would not do such a thing intentionally because people will criticize her for it. She gets criticized for everything and it does not seem fair. I felt really bad for her. For the record, before I get bashed for possibly being a Clinton supporter, I am a supporter of John Edwards.

18. Well, I have been as hard on Hillary as anyone, but |
|
I have to say, campaigning has got to be the most BRUTAL physical endurance test ever. I probably wouldn't last three days. I can see if you're bone tired and seeing your campaign go up in flames before your eyes after months and months of work ... Well, crap. I'd cry too.

20. And people ask where's the Hillary hatred on this board. |
|
Like a mob hurling stones at one of our own.
I thought the 04 primaries were bad here on DU, but I've never seen such depths of sheer visciousness, blind hatred as I do on this board now.
What a fine group of people you bashers are.

Probably seems worse when it's YOUR candidate they're going after.
I felt the same way right after the 2004 election.

There was nothing like the way Hillary is being attacked then, tho. It's part of the reason I decided to back her.

25. Sorry You Feel This Way - I Don't Consider Myself A Basher.... |
|
I'm as frustrated as the next person is with the current administration and just want to make sure that the Dems win in '08.
Whether HRC was acting or it was a true emotion I don't know - I just have my suspicions as I expressed in my original post.
In either case there are also a bunch of other people that are campaigning and I'm sure the bulk of them (probably not Obama and the Huckster) are tired and frustrated as well. I don't see them as choked-up as HRC was in this exchange.
I want to see a Dem win. And if HRC can't take the pressure of this primary campaign - well how is she going to fair in the general election - when the Repugs unleash their 'dirty tricks, attacks and swiftboating on her'? If this happened during the GE campaign the Repugs would make mincemeat out of her.
At any rate - look at the attention she has gotten from this whole thing. She has been the topic of discussion on all the news shows. She has had many people rally around her on these shows as well (as you did). If it was acting - it accomplished her campaigners goal. If it was a true emotion - it accomplished that as well. She's gotten a lot of extra publicity and has accomplished being humanized.
