To the African American and women Democrats
We now know, barring a political earthquake of epic proportions, that our party will nominate an African American or woman. Regardless, you have every right to be proud of that historic first. I still remember when Mondale picked Ferraro. Even though I am male I was so proud of our party for being first. No, we didn't win, but we still went first. Now, we will be first again, and this time we will win. The first non white or non male President will be a Democrat. I hope to live to see the day the first gay one is a Democrat. But, either way, I am glad to see the day a woman or African American is elected President of the United States of America.

4. And what if it's a corporate African-American or a corporate woman?
What then?

It won't make any difference. Condi is no liberal. Clarence Thomas is no liberal. Dana Perino is no liberal. Hillary is no progressive. Obama is no progressive. They both take lots of money from corporate lobbyists and will have to do their bidding if they are elected.

Just because somebody is a female or an African-American does not mean they are progressive.

Don't you know that?

I'm voting for the candidate who is going to take our country back for the working person and those who fell out of the middle class. I'm not voting for someone because of their gender or the color of their skin.

5. Last I checked Perino, Thomas, and Rice
aren't Democrats. But I take it reading posts is too corporate for you.

10. No, Hillary and Obama are too corporate for me.
They take money from corporate lobbyists, like the drug companies, for instance.
They are not going to change the system.

Why is that so hard for you to understand?

7. Oh, and I am voting for an openly gay man for Senate here, in NC
Sure, it is a primary, and he may well lose, but he may not. His opponent isn't all that well known. Of course Dole is the incumbent.

8. You're right. Either way, there is hope.
When I was a teenager in the 80s, when Reagan ruled and the Mondale/Ferraro ticket was defeated (I was too young to vote, but I still wanted it with all my heart) I got cynical for a while and thought that white men would rule forever. I read about Victoria Woodhull and Shirley Chisholm (before my time) and got even more depressed. I was elated by Jesse Jackson's primary wins even though I'm not black, and crushed by his defeats.

I just wanted...needed...someone to break that STRANGLEHOLD. That assumption that a white male president was the unshakable norm and anything else was a sign of the end of the world.

I have faith that it will happen now. And yes, it DOES matter. After 250 years of no one BUT white males having any sort of chance, if a handful of black and/or female voters cast their vote in favor of FINALLY having someone who resembles them possibly making it, ain't nothin' wrong with it. It's a way better reason to vote for someone than "He seems like someone I'd like to have a beer with, and the other guy is boring and uses words I don't know."

9. The difference is the AA candidate CAN win and the woman CANNOT.
So, as I see it, we either have the possibility of an African-American President or another white male.

16. A 3% margin, with a split of the delegates does not = a "clock cleaning"
And, I should add, a 3% margin with a split of the delegates in the NORTHEAST is not that impressive at all. Furthermore, whether the NE wants to believe it or not, the opinions of the rest of this country matter a great deal.

So far we have heard from only one midwestern state and the message they sent Hillary was not kind.

15. It won't be SC or Nevada. But my point is just to let the people vote
and that we don't know what will happen over the next few weeks and months.

McCain was also deemed out of it months ago.
