1. Those banners generate more clicks than you can imagine.
In a world where advertisers pay per click, anything that can drive traffic to a site is gold.

They could just as easily put up a banner that says "Should all Jews be put in a camp?" That would generate thousands of outraged clicks as people try to do the right thing.

And every other ad on that page pays off nicely.

People would learn eventually that the obscene and violent banners are a trick, and would stop going. I don't think the political animals will ever stop clicking.

Clearly, this is an ad that was placed post-Iowa. I just think it's a bizarre how quickly prevailing attitudes can change on a dime.
