I had a question about Oprah Winfrey. I was wondering if she had stepped forward in 2004 to suppor
Kerry and Edwards? It seemed to me a little disingenuous for her to come forward to support Obama when this whole mess could have been ended in 2004. And please don't play the race card. It's a legitimate question and should be applied to all candidates who use celebrities. For instance Chuck Norris for Huckabee.

1. Nope......
But that was her right.

She likes Obama. I don't see the problem with that.

2. They didn't move her the way Obama does.
She's not obligated to endorse anyone and she's not obligated to keep quiet, either. Like a lot of people in this country, for the first time in her adult life there was a candidate out there who spoke to her deeply and she chose to put her name on the line and support him.

I'm glad she's on Obama's side.

3. she is supporting OBama because she likes Obama, not because she is a Dem
which i'm not sure if she is. but she said she has supported people in both parties.

8. She's the american dream
Dirt poor black girl born and raised in the segregated South. A molested child, molested teenager, battered woman. Became Nashville's first black news anchor and worked her way up to the big leagues in Chicago where she was given her own show and the rest is history. Say what you want about her, but do not belittle this woman's accomplishments. Like Obama, she's a self made person who worked hard and made it on her own. Like Obama, her story is improbable, but she's here, honey, and more than you could ever be. Keep laughin'.

9. Good point. She certainly could have put a stop to this mess.
I remember being disappointed in her for doing fluff instead of doing something meaningful. Haven't watched her much since.

10. Why was it her responsibility to put a "stop to this mess"? n/t
Maybe democrats should quit acting like republicans and backing status quo establisment candidates, the people who voted for all this mess.

18. So it's Oprah's responsibility to keep Dems from doing the same
stupid thing over and over, like nominating obvious losers? Please. Get over it, she loves Obama.

21. Oprah IS part of the corporatocracy.
She IS a big chunk of that top 1% of wealth in this nation. If she's not part of the solution, she's part of the problem.

When a single powerful person is able to powerfully influence any issue he or she chooses to, just as she powerfully elevated Obama in the eyes of this nation-- and got him millions upon millions of dollars worth of media exposure in every single market, and on every single television set in this country, that is huge.

Sorry, but I stand by my statement: with GREAT wealth comes great responsibility.

I think she shirked that responsibility in 2004.

26. No. I'll say it again:
With GREAT wealth comes great responsibility.

And, btw, we are ALL responsible and accountable for what this government "of the people, by the people, and for the people does." Nations all over the world hold ALL of us personally and individually responsible. It's all being done in our names. What are we ALL-- including Oprah, who is one of the most powerful people in America today-- doing about it?

She didn't stand up in 2004. She had all the candidates on her show, but she was noncommittal. Never took a stand.

11. What is your point...?
Because, from here, it seems like a subtle way of implying that "Oprah only supports Obama because he's black." :grr:

13. It's not her fault that Bush won in 04
It the fault of democratic voters. They picked a terrible establishment candidate. Went for Kerry over Dean, bunch of fools. We didn't deserve to win that one.

17. Not bashing Dems
It's not Oprah's responsibility to save the Dems from themselves just because she has a lot of money and influence. It's the dems responsibiltity to quit continuing to nominate people who obviously cannot win decisively. That hasn't a thing to do with Oprah, it has everything to do with Dem voters.

Or the "Dem voters", damn them!

I LOVE Dem voters.

I assign more blame to those people who vote republican, myself.
