How safe are Clinton and Obama's senate seats? |
|
Am I right in assuming that if either of those two wins the presidential nomination, it puts their senate seats into play early (Obama holds his till 2010, Clinton til 2012, I think).
Is there any chance of the Republicans taking either of them if so?

They're both relatively centrist in reliably blue states. They're both effective at their jobs.

Obama is one of the most liberal/progressive Senators in D.C. and is consistently recognized as such.

8. That doesn't make him not a centrist. |
|
Appealing to independents and Republicans is by definition a centrist position. He's making quite a point about his cross-over appeal and, in fact, he did better among independents than he did among registered Democrats in both the Iowa and New Hampshire contests. Those are facts.
To counter these facts, you offer me your opinion that he is "one of the most liberal." I share your opinion, but that doesn't make him not a centrist. Oddly enough, when he was asked if he was liberal in one of the debates, he backed off from that word saying he doesn't like labels and prefers to think of himself "as a progressive."
Of course liberal and progressive are subjective judgments. I was talking about facts.

3. A Democratic governor will name their replacement if one of the two becomes president. |
|
In 2010, who knows what may happen, but somethings tells me that the seat held by the seating president would be safe short of some big event.

If Hillary Clinton wins the nomination and election Spitzer would probably install his current Lt Governor as senator.
