RANT TIME: Its F'ing stupid to try to demoralize DUers who support other candidates |
|
You know I'm sick and tired of watching DUers trying to diminish the good news of supporters of any candidate other than their own. Its stupid, childish and at the end of the day it accomplishes nothing but creates more divisiveness. We are are having a hard fought primary and I sling with the best of them, but one thing I don't do is try to demoralize supporters of other candidates, the reality is one of the candidates, either mine or yours, is going to be the nominee.
Every victory (Iowa and New Hampshire) is something to beat your chest about if your candidates win and something to respect if your candidates don't.
Every endorsement (Union, celebrity, newspaper, etc.) is something to be happy about when it works out for your candidate.
Every poll that shows your candidate in the lead is something to be encouraged by.
Its just sickening what is happening on the DU. We don't need to support the same candidate in the primary but we sure as hell need to be a lot more respectful of one another.
I don't care who does it, because supporters of every candidate are doing it. I'm sure of done but I'm going to try do better because its just gotten silly.
Flame away if you must, but I had to get that off of my chest.

1. It's called a primary. |
|
Relax.
It happens every 4 years here (every 2 to a much lesser degree).
We survive.

2. I think everyone on DU should be very proud of all the candidates left in the race. |

People have been turning out in record numbers to vote in the primaries. And we have 48 states to go! Mud slinging is just all part of it.

of being smart? Just sayin'. It is stupid to try and "demoralize" and you hit the nail with that. First..we were hillary haters because we didn't like her policies and now there's threads calling out Obama supporters for being the nastiest(yeah right) and a thread out about how insignificant The Culinary Union is. That's okay, it turned out to be a very positive thread for the CHEFS..I'm sure much to the chagrin of the op.

6. An excellent, articulate and admirable rant as ever there was. |
|
On one hand your completely right and your post should be required reading for every DUer each time he or she logs in but when passions run so high and people so deeply believe in their respective candidates unique ability to heal all that needs to be healed I don't think the verbal bloodletting is avoidable it might even be a necessary.

7. Agreed, I started out today with a positive attitude |
|
And still have it for the candidates, have even showed support for some DUERS that have been upset over what happened but did it in a honest way. To the others, I'm showing no mercy.

8. I'm not voting for Clinton or Obama in my primary on Feb. 12. |
|
I'll vote for my preferred candidate (Richardson). I know he's not winning the nomination, but casting a vote for your originally intended candidate means you never abandoned that candidate in the primary.

11. Way to miss the point. |
|
The OP was speaking out against people who insult and agitate supporters of other candidates. (Not that you'd know anything about that)
Nobody has implied that you shouldn't vote for who YOU want.

10. The problem with politics is that it involves human beings |

If you could remove that element, it would probably be a nice, even keeled experience.

12. Well said and this deserves a rec... |

We still have three leaders. Richardson is hanging in there for #4--good for him and his supporters.
We also seem to have a primary almost guaranteed to run for all 50 states. Something new after the last two elections.
These are positives. Lets keep it all as positive as possible.
And, we also seem to have picked up some real voter enthusiasm--lets not waste that.
