Gee, how many chairs do they get to buy Obama? |
|
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 04:07 PM by jsamuel
From Obama's speech last night:
"We can tell the drug and insurance industry that while they get a seat at the table, they don't get to buy every chair."
To go on with this point, this is part of what gets me about Obama. They have been touting his ethics reform like it saved us from the lobbyists recently. Just a few months ago his own campaign called it "symbolic". They touched on this in the NH debate where Clinton pointed out that lobbyists could still pay for meals as long as congress members didn't sit. Lobbyists can no longer arrange travel for congress members, but the lobbyists' assistant can. This is like putting a normal band-aid on a finger tip, it will just slip right off.

Definitely six. I've never understood the typical sale of chairs in groups of four.

3. Why are the drug and insurance companies at the table at all. |
|
We should have representatives for the nurses and the doctors and the patients at the table.
We should have health care experts and advocates at the table.
But we don't need the rip-off con artists at the table.
They can present their concerns to congress but they should NOT be writing legislation.

6. If you truly see no difference |

between Barack and Hillary (the latter soaking in lobbyist cash), knock yourself out trashing him, but I'm wondering if John and Barack's gentlemen's agreement indicates a nod from John towards Barack that you aren't seeing.
Realistically and something I'm quite certain will be rejected by some is the fact that this is probably going to come down to a two-person race, and I find it peculiar that you would be attacking the candidate that is closest to yours and one with whom your candidate has made an alliance of sorts.

7. As an Edwards supporter, I really don't like to see posts like this and I'll tell you why.. |
|
it just does us no good. I heard Obama say that, and it was awkwardly worded. I think its an attempt to incorporate a more populist and substantive message in his speeches. And yes, it moves him more to the progressive side.. more to the way JE would like things to be done. I don't think the fact that Obama is being forced to take more inclusive positions a bad thing.. its good. That he's following Edwards' lead, also not a bad thing.
Our biggest threat is not Obama. Its Hillary Clinton. Knocking Obama down is only going to help her. That's a fact. I think most people realize that Obama has more $$, has more corporate $$.. but to lump him into the same classification of HRC as a corporate shill is a disservice to him, and to Edwards. That's just me.

10. Good point on BO beginning to take on some of JE's |
|
ideas and incorporating them in his plans. Hasn't DU as a whole always seen the value of having guys like Dennis, Dodd, and Biden stay in the race long enough to influence the front runners a bit? I would like it if BO broadened his focus a bit on some of the Populist message.
