Is it possible that people who were thinking of Obama opted for McCain? |
|
Just before the election, speculation was that a large number of independents would op[t to participate in the Democratic Primary and vote for Obama. Obama ended up with a total of 104,639 votes. McCain got 88,447. Overall, 287,580 people cast Democratic ballots; 238,909 people cast Republican ballots. How many Republicans and Republican leaning voters decided at the last minute that they had to stop Romney and/or Huckabee?

I mean, the oldest whitest guy who's for the war and the youngest blackest guy who isn't?
No one would make that connection.

6. Obama is perceived as an agent of change who is axctively |

seeking support from independents. There was a lot of weeping and wailing last week about how independents shouldn't be allowed din "OUR" primaries or caucuses. On the other hand, McCain is the only Republican running who is at least half-way respectable plus he won New Hampshire before. I can see an independent who generally votes Republican getting swept away buy Obama right up to the point where he had to ask for a Democratic ballot.

The Democratic contest was expected to be a blowout while the Republican race was competitive.
