The attack Clark threads are working - I've changed my mind |
|
While I've strongly supported Wes Clark's campaign, I'll admit that I've been less than sanguine about his chances of securing the nomination. Not due to any deficiencies of the candidate or the campaign but merely due to his late start in the race.
Now, I have to admit that the numerous threads that regularly appear here from a small group of Dean supporters against Clark are influencing my opinion. Since they continually repeat the same few tedious attacks day after day, it makes me think that they are actually fearful. So perhaps, Wes Clark's chances are even greater than I had hoped if they feel that they must take time away from the grassroots efforts to keep these posts coming.
I can only say, thank you, you've eased my mind. I guess that I should only start worrying again if the attacks cease.

1. Bingo! You win the prize! |
|
Thank you for getting it!
You understand that attacks on one's candidate really only shores up support for that candidate. All of them! Attacks on Clark shore up support for Clark by his fans.
Attacks on Dean shore up support for....Dean...by his fans.
You are a smart individual. Now, go Ye therefore and teach your colleagues!

2. Thanks jmaier, they had the same effect on me. |

After I initially researched quite a few of them and found nothing but smears, I dismissed them.
And I've concluded that Clark (along with Kucinich) is, albeit human and imperfect, one of the best presidential candidates I've ever seen.

From Dean. Good to see people speaking out against such attacks.
Received from Kucinich campaign today:
"CONCORD MONITOR NOTES DEAN'S CLAIM
On Saturday, Dec. 27, the Concord Monitor in Concord, NH, noted: "Dean recently mailed brochures to homes in New Hampshire with a headline stating that Dean is the only candidate who 'opposed the war from the start.'"
Pretty bizarre attack given that Kucinich is on record voting against the IWR in congress...

Small people sometimes feel bigger when anonymous so they say the hurtful things they wish they could say in person. The slander, distortion, and personal attacks that have gone on here serve no Democrat, only repubs. It's gotten so bad that a part of me wants to see the nomination over with quickly just to slow flood of bile that so many are spewing forth.
Anyway, I appreciate your posts.

... as to whom I will vote for in the primary, but I'm under no illusions that Dean is not going to get the nomination. It's his to lose at this point and it's not looking too good for the others.
The main question I have is whether a campaign with a foundation built on the anger of Florida 2000 can carry Dean, or any candidate for that matter, to victory. From what I see, things are looking bleak.

Edited on Tue Dec-30-03 12:03 AM by w4rma
Can one that *ignores* that anger win? IMHO, only one that taps into that anger, while expanding into hope can win.
The Democratic nominee must be multi-faceted. That nominee must be able to tap into the anger of some of us, while *also* drawing in folks who are pretty much regular voters and giving every one of these voters and supporters reasons to work and vote for that candidate.

I agree that it's going to be a 'long, hard slog'. I think Gov Dean has a good shot at challenging Bush if he gets the nomination. Of course, I personally believe that Wes Clark is a stronger candidate vis a vis Bush, but I won't lose all hope if Dean wins the nomination.

I don't know who "they" are. If you're talking about Clark bloggers why they (we) can be just as nutty as anyone's set of online groupies.
That's not exactly, a well grounded reason, to reject a candidate though in my humble opinion. When the election is over, it's the candidate that matters, not what some misguided supporters feel. Both campaigns have their share of 'broach no criticism' supporters.
But, best of luck to you. Howard Dean is a fine man.

I see the truth: after Jan 20, 2005, 8 years of Shelton, Milosevic and assorted Serbian lore on websites where Rove, Scott, Ramsey Clark, Matt Taibbi, Tinoire, the Arkansas Project, Patriot Spear, will join forces to inform the public. The rest of the country, OTOH, will join forces to clean up Iraq, terrorism, restore the economy, US's image abroad, civil rights, public education etc and generally having a good old time. Thanks for opening my eyes! You have been invaluable teachers to me.

Wes Clark makes being a supporter easy. I can't imagine if I had to read the paper everyday trying to prepare for how I'll explain . . . . that catching Saddam is NOT a good thing, or that Bill Clinton is really a bad guy, or . . .?
It's okay Dean supporters, come on over. You probably made your decision before Clark was in the race.
