I have to give it to the California Republicans
this year their primary is not open. In fact, BOTH parties have bled tens of thousands of members, who have since become Independent. Yet the Republicans have closed their primary. I am registered Indie (and no, there is nobody in that ballot that even distantly interests me, though Alan Keyes made me chuckle)... but them are the breaks, only two parties now have open primaries, the Dems and one of the small parties.

Given the number of people who are now indies in this state.. .don't expect high numbers of voters.

1. My dad's registered as an Independent in CA and he's
going to request a Dem ballot in the primary. Actually, I think this may work to our advantage.

4. I'm figuring lots of less well informed I's will show up
thinking they can vote for either major party's candidates and then find out that the repukes are excluding them while the Dems are open to them. That would have to be a plus.

6. I saw it, too. I'm not in any way suggesting that any one
group of voters is less informed. There are no doubt plenty of D's and R's who don't read the voter's pamphlets either.

7. That is an excellent choice of word... cynical
bravo...

I still remember proudly signing up for the Dem party five seconds after I became a citizen. but over the years, after paying much attention, I just became an independent. From reading data, I am not surprised people are dropping out like flies.

2. Maybe the Republicans can see the handwriting on the wall...
And know that their candidates won't do well...

Hence, the closed primary?

I suspect the Dems will do well, speaking about the turnout...

We have a lot more energy on our side now...
