More Endorsements Expected for Obama(Napolitano tomorrow, two more senators, including a woman soon)
More Endorsements Expected for Obama

Susan Davis and Jackie Calmes report on the presidential race.

John Kerry’s endorsement of Barack Obama for Democrats’ presidential nomination will be followed soon by that of several more senators, and Friday, Arizona’s popular Gov. Janet Napolitano is expected to announce her support.

Arizona is a coveted state among those holding nominating contests Feb. 5, “Super Tuesday.” Napolitano’s endorsement of Obama is interesting in that his chief rival, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, would be the first female president.

As for senators, second-term Clinton has 10 endorsements from their Democratic colleagues to first-term Obama’s four. But two of his came today — despite a second place to Clinton in Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary, which he had been expected to win on the heels of his Iowa caucuses victory. Along with Kerry, Democrats’ unsuccessful 2004 nominee, Obama reeled in the endorsement of South Dakota’s Tim Johnson.

Kerry not only passed over Clinton but also his 2004 running mate, former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, who could have used a boost. The Kerry-Edwards relationship frayed amid finger-pointing after their failed White House bid. “Our country and our party are stronger because of John’s service, and I respect his decision,” Edwards said in a statement.

As for Johnson, he said Obama “is in a unique position to reach across party lines and unite our country. The problem with Washington has become the increasingly partisan nature that produces more roadblocks than results.”

Two more senators, including a woman, are expected to come forward for Obama in coming days, a person close to the Obama campaign said. While little suggests that individual endorsements do much to bolster a candidate, for Sen. Obama they blunt the questions about his experience. And Kerry’s could bring with him a three-million-strong list of national supporters.

1. That's nice, but we can't win here...
If we get more endorsements, a third of DU calls Obama "establishment"...but it we weren't getting them, another third would call him "inexperienced."

Just sayin'

35. Obama campaigned a lot for Klobuchar
I wouldn't be surprised if it's her. I remember Obama doing a lot of campaigning for her in '06.

2. Question: Did Feingold endorse Obama?
Or was that just a rumor? Wonder who Uncle Ted will endorse?

Feingold hasn't endorsed anyone yet but I wouldn't be surprised at all if
he endorsed Obama.

I haven't heard anything about Uncle Ted.

11. Bobby endorsed Hillary
I imagine in exchange for her senate seat. I don't expect Teddy to endorse. They seem to put family first, based on how they act with Ahnold.

40. Robert endorsed Senator Clinton
because he has been impressed with her commitment to environmental issues over the years.

43. Hillary calls herself Hillary
if she doesn't like it, she shouldn't do it.

And everybody calls Bobby, Bobby.

And if you don't think the NY Senate seat consideration was part of the deal, well then you have a lot more faith in people than I do.

And I love Robert Kennedy, Jr. One of my most favorite people in the world. But politics is politics. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do. The Clintons could have been significantly better on the environment, no question about it.

5. Um dude....
Not really into getting into too much specifics tonight, but do you have any idea whatsoever just how progressive Senator Edward M. Kennedy is and how much he has done during the course of his career to advance liberalism. Lay off of him. And don't bring up the right-wing smear that was Chappaquidick. Three examples for now:
1. Against Iraq from the beginning.
2. Supported Kerry's Alito filibuster in the senate
3. Strong advancement of healthcare legislation.

I'll go back and add a tag.

Lincoln, Murray, McCaskill, Landrieu (spt patooie), Klobuchar maybe,

I think Arkansas and Missouri are both Feb 5 states. Don't know about the others.

38. She would shred any rep
That would be fun to watch.
She's got like a decade in the House, 15 years in the Senate, solid credentials, violence against women act, voted against the iraq war-the list goes on.

I figured she'd be a likely 1st woman president.
But a damn solid VP for any dem in my book.

They want to support someone who could give them a filibuster proof Congress, not someone who would cost us a bunch of Democratic seats in the South and West. :dilemma:

31. Interesting on the Napolitano endrsmt, Not that it matters but she
graduated from the same university as Leon Panetta(Clinton admin) and Dee Dee Myers, Clinton press secretary. Of note is also Zoe Lofgren in Congress.

FAMOUS ALUMNI

Leon Panetta, Former White House Chief of Staff; Edward A. Panelli, Retired California Supreme Court Justice; Brandi Chastain, US National Women's Soccer Team; Steve Nash, Professional Basketball Player, Phoenix Suns; Janet Napolitano, Governor of Arizona; Andy Ackerman, Producer and Director of; Dee Dee Myers, Former White House Press Secretary

SCU is big on social justice. My youngest is a student there.

thingie tonight. No it doesn't. That is just pure drivel.

I am not suggesting that these endorsements are not a good thing for a Obama - it is just that the commentary is crap.

To me it means they like him. Next.

39. it looks like he's really planned out
the primary season.

I mean, Iowa & NH, then a rolling Obama pr run of endorsements leading up to NV & SC. Always in the press, always nice visuals and positive stories like a cresendo building to the next caucus/primary. I surprised the Clinton camp didn't game out the interlude like this, but maybe they are planning something for next week. It just seems like the Clinton advisors expected to coast to the nomination.
