|
Edited on Fri Jan-11-08 04:10 AM by ingac70
That is what he said when his raising taxes while Gov. was brought up in the debate.... What a SLAM! The right wing punditry are crapping themselves over this one! http://hughhewitt.townhall.com/blog/g/ab5af1b6-cc16-4bff-ab6e-2acddbed3621Click on the link to see the video.

1. I recall a bumper sticker |
|
not too long ago citing the Bridge which collapsed in Minnesota and underneath the notation:
YOUR TAX CUTS AT WORK.
Pretty compelling.

5. His being a fundie scares me too... |
|
but it is refreshing to hear some common sense about what should be priorities, like education and infrastructure, coming from the mouth of a Republican. No wonder the corporate whores hate him so much!
Doubt he gets far.

4. I hate to say it, but Huck improved the roads in Arkansas |
|
Tremendously with the fuel tax increase.
But Bill Clinton tried first, and was thwarted by the poultry and trucking companies in Arkansas.
The roads were bad and getting worse until Bill Clinton was elected Governor. It was a royal pain to drive in that state on some of the worst-maintained roads in the nation.
The compromise tax bill that came up to fix the problem in Arkansas under Clinton put most of the burden on auto owners, as business was against paying its' share, and only angered residents.
The roads continued to deteriorate until business had to cave because it was costing them money in increased shipping costs, maintenance, etc. They finally realized that having a decent road system in their state is conducive to business.

6. Remember Governor Frank White?? |
|
The citizenry spanked Bill good during his first term for raising licensing fees and elected republican White. That lasted for two years.

8. The sad part is, if they would have started to fix things under |
|
Bill Clinton, they wouldn't have had things get to such a sorry state it was almost an emergency to remedy, way more expensive, and in the end cost less for all parties involved.
And Bill Clinton ran for governor telling people he would fix the roads.
I guess they thought he was going to go out with a shovel and do it himself. They never thought that it might actually take tax dollars to do so.
I always marvel at the electorate.
They want stuff done, but don't want to pay for it, and if it doesn't get fixed, bitch up a storm. If their taxes get raised to cure the problem, bitch up a storm. If taxes are raised and the problem is fixed, demand a tax cut so the problem returns.
Then bitch up a storm again.
